50amp in a 30amp outlet, long term

We are upgrading to a bigger rig, a Class A diesel that is 50amp, but we only have a 30amp outlet an electrician installed when we bought our Greyhawk.

While I know you can buy doglegs to connect a 50amp unit to a 30amp outlet, I am wondering if it is a problem long term. Or should I look into swapping our the 30amp outlet outside my garage for a 50amp? Not actually sure my breaker box can handle anymore frankly.

I am aware you cannot run all the appliances at once obviously, but other than that, any issues I should be careful of?

Thanks

Its fine.

Lot of us have been using dog bones at home. I would look at your dog bone, to consider the long term affect of being exposed to the weather.

The house breaker will trip if you overload the circuit.

Absolutely nothing. I had a 50 amp outlet that was wired like an adapter on a 30 amp breaker for over 7 years, never an issue.

For 4 years I had my 30 amp class C plugged into an outside 15 amp plug traded up to a 31UL class A 50 amp used the same plug for a year no problems. Did some renos in the summer so now we have a 50 amp plug. I would worry more about surge protection when parking at home. When not using the rig your only charging the batteries and running a couple other small alarms.

My 50a rig is powered by a 30a feed all the time I am at home.

If you worry about power surges, your 50a or 30a Surge Protector or EMS will resolve that concern.
