If you ask for a Robertson bit in the US, they look at you like they never heard of them but they have them in bins marked S1, S2 etc.
The "S" meaning square.

Robertson is the industry name. Like Philips.

If only Henry Ford could have cut a deal with Robertson we'd all be using them instead of Philips.

When Henry Ford tried out the Robertson screws, he found that they saved considerable time in Model T production, but when Robertson refused to license the screw design, Ford realized that the supply of screws would not be guaranteed and chose to limit their use in production to Ford's Canadian division.[7][8][9]
Robertson's refusal to license his screws prevented their widespread adoption in the United States, where the more widely licensed Phillips head gained wider acceptance. The restriction of licensing of Robertson's internal-wrenching square may have sped the development of the internal-wrenching hexagon or hex key.[original research?]

Isn't this a "simple" Torx head. Used to be GM proprietary to annoy everyone owning a GM, but now fairly wide spread. If you use a square head bit and force it in it might work but it will strip going in or out. Torx come in a variety of sizes from 5 to 40, etc. Ask for them by name.

No, it's a multi facet #2 square screw. Speeds install since you have multiple positions to put it on the bit.

Screwed
Please don't feel bad about your question or I will have to also! I have used a lot of tools in my life. The first time I needed to work on a camper I looked at the screw, thought "dang, now I've gotta get a set of those,." So I went to the internet to buy a cheap set, and couldn't find them! It was the next day when I was thinking about what I have that I could improvise with and thought "hmmm, 8 sided, I can try a four sided .... oh, DUH!". I never bothered to research the why. Probably because it's faster to load during camper assembly. Anyways, smile!

Sometimes you have to have the right tool to fix it right... This usually has the bit to fit...

Is this a 8point star bit?
Trying to remove the battery disconnect, and I don't have the correct bit. Stumbled upon this feed but it seems that my screw is a bit different than the double square.

That is a double square screw, a normal #2 square drive will take it out.

I can't tell from the pic, but if it has 8 points t's called a "double square" bit, available in three sizes identified as #1, #2, and #3. Double square bit sets are available at several places, like Napa, Amazon, Lowes, etc.

I don’t know if this will work and I’ve never tried it, but would a ratchet or driver in a 1/4” socket set do the job? It’s 1/4” and square. Most folks have one in their tool collection so there’s nothing to buy. If you can’t get the ratchet in there, add a 1/4” extension to get the clearance.
