Alante 26 charging problem

Neither the house batteries or the chassis battery charges on shore power or by generator. They drain down to nothing. If there is any juice left in the chassis battery, everything comes back to life when the engine starts. All A/C functions are normal when on shore or generator power, except charging the batteries. We hear there is an "off" switch needed to be tripped when on shore power to facilitate charging, but of course, there is no clue where we might find that. The converter panel shows an "overload" fault code. Any clues out there? Thanks!

Get it to the dealer right away, it sounds like the converter has lost the charger section. You don't want to buy 3 new batteries. If you have a portable battery charger get all three fully charged (12.6v) and keep them charged until you can get to the dealer. The fault code might be indicating that there might be a short to ground in the system some where. If this is the case then you will not want to use shore power and the dealer can locate the source of the fault code and correct it.

Using a DC volt meter measure the output of the converter and if it less than 13 volts then there may be a problem with the converter.

Most motorhomes are not wired to charge the chassis battery when the converter alone is used.
We have installed a Trik-L-Start into each of our motorhomes which ensures the chassis battery is charged each time the house batteries are charged.
