I just checked my VIN on the NHTSA.GOV web site and it applies to me. My 2020 F53 chassis build date was 7/20 for my 2021 Precept 34G.... GVWR 22000 LB

So, all need to check the web site for the recall.

Remedy: Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a ford or lincoln dealer all vehicles will be inspected for lubricant level and evaluated to determine if bearing replacement is necessary there will be no charge for this service ford is excluding reimbursement for costs because the original warranty program would provide for a free repair for this concern ford will forward a copy of the notification letters to dealers to the agency when available.”

The recall information posted does not specify an affected production date range or chassis model year. I have a 2020 F-53 chassis built in November of 2020 and my chassis is affected. I have checked several other 2020 model year F-53 chassis VINs that I found on RVTrader and most, but not all, are affected as well. It seems early 2020 production is not affected, but I can not confirm that.

The best thing to do if you have a 2020 or 2021 F-53 chassis is to go to https://www.nhtsa.gov and enter your VIN #. A generic search for recalls on the 2020/21 F-53 chassis does not list this recall. This recall will only show up by searching with your specific VIN number.

Teething problems to be sure for the revised chassis. So now I’m hoping, for my soon to be built rig, that my chassis is young enough to have avoided the spark plug wire fiasco (which it should be) as well as this new issue.

Also, I read on IRV2 somebody posted Ford has a software patch for the AdvanceTrek errors some have been getting. Something else to stew over I suppose.

On a positive note, prospective buyers of new coaches should run their VIN per the above and refuse delivery until this issue is resolved if your chassis is affected. You never have as much power and influence as you do before you sign the check.

Just checked our 2021 Alante 27A. It’s on the recall list. We have put 6000 miles on the rig since January with no issues. Towed an enclosed trailer about 2300 miles on our last trip. Just crawled out from under it and the fluid was right at the lower fill hole! Not much stuff on the plug either. Hopefully we are ok! Ours was built 8/20.

Thank you so much for that info!! The local dealer that works on motor homes told me we had to wait for Ford to tell them what to do! You would think they would at least want to check the fluid!!

Thanks again Tom

I just got my 2021 Alante back from the pensacola Ford dealership for the spark plug wire TSB. My maintenance report had the differential recall on it, glad to see Ford took care of it. Of course it took 2 weeks from the first call to get it done....

Help with my axle

Thanks all for the great information and research. My 2021 Precept 29V (2020 chassis) is on the list and I would at least like to check the level. However, my axle has two fill holes (one higher than the other). So, which is it? I took the top one off and the level is way lower than the bottom of the hole. I don't want to take the bottom off until I confirm. I have looked all over the manuals and other forums and can't find anything. It is the S110 axle, but all the manuals only reference one fill hole.

Anyone else run into this?

Fill hole

I also have 2 fill holes I have the s130 axle. I am going with the lower fill hole because It is right side up. Also I believe that if you go by the top hole there would be way to much oil in there. I looked at my pickup to see where that one is and it’s lower. I did read on a Dana site that the pumpkin can also be used in a 4x4 scenario. Which would spin that unit so that the top hole now would be the bottom hole if in front axle. I am not 100 percent on this. Hopefully someone that does know for sure will chime in. We do have 6000 miles on this unit since January plus towing with it and it seems ok!🤞

I should have said that the word “fill” is right side up!

Thanks for the reply and that makes sense. The upper hole is pretty high up. Mine is actually low on the lower hole. So, off to the store to get some fluid.

Recall isn't suppose to be out officially until October.
Don't wait, have your mechanic check the level and fill if necessary. Cost me $75 to do it. No lift required. Doesn't invalidate the recall or warranty.
Don't ruin your rear end (so to speak) and get the peace of mind it won't happen.
My VIN wasn't included in the recall list but it was at half filled.

Tell ALL your 2020-21 Class A Gas owners

By the way, this oil fill issue is not unique to Jayco Class A gas MH.
All Class A Motor Homes built on 2020-2021 Ford F53 Chassis are effected. Don't depend on the VIN # to see if your safe, my VIN wasn't and it was half full.
Spread the word to all your fellow 2020-21 Class A owners.
Here is a thread with a lot of detail on the F53 issue:

Service Manager said no word from Ford so we did not take delivery this past Friday.

Ugh..

We booked a site for the end of May, they better figure this out.

Jopopsy, thanks for starting this post. My 31UL is under the recall, spoke with the nearest Ford shop and they won't have a spot for at least a month, BUT - they have been told by Ford to do absolutely nothing (!!!) until Ford issues the repair instructions.. don't check it, just plain old do not touch it, not even crate a repair order. So, I will be checking my levels myself.

Well, I suppose I’ll be the canary in the mineshaft for new builds as it relates to this problem. I’m wondering if they’ll just build it and send it on its way or have Ford fix it in the yard since it would have 0 miles on it.

Unless I’m lucky w/ a chassis build date after 2/16 or whatever the Feb. cutoff date is.

Yes, I guess you are the luck one.. At least it isn't delaying planned trips for you (that have reservations already paid for)... I will have to crawl under and see if I can determine the model of the Diff, so I can make sure to that the needed amount of oil... Ford lists at least 3 for my year...

Ford probably has to get with their lawyers first to make sure the wording is right after the PR department and engineers write everything up.
