Another step issue

With the coach running and I open the door, the step is erratic. Sometimes it goes out, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes it's delayed for a few seconds and then goes out. I thought it must be the door switch, but with the coach shut down and the step lock switch in the off position, when I open and close the door the step works perfectly. Any thoughts?

My assumption would be a loose connection on the wire that senses the ignition at the step. I would have to do some research to know which one it is, but i would start there.

Our old rig had similar issues with our Kwikee steps and it was three different things. More recently, when it was cold (freezing) the steps would do that. Every time I noticed it and flicked/tapped the door switch they went right out.

Earlier on, we had other problems. The controller started having problems where the steps would go out when the ignition was turned on when it had previously been working. After going through the test procedures in the manual, I determined it was a bad controller and while replacing it found that the ground was inadequate, so tied it to a good ground on the frame to make sure that never became an issue, too.

We also had problems where the motor just wouldn’t run with it being stuck in. The controller was clearly calling for power as the light under the steps would dim for a second or two. After a couple of cycles of pulling the motor, checking/cleaning the contacts, motor and gears, replacing the motor solved that problem.

I would agree that it probably is a bad connection. I would start with the wires under the steps. My unit use to do weird things with the steps as well. Partially out ,partially in etc.
A good lubrication took care of that issue.
