Auto Levelers on Precept
This is beginning to bother me. When I want to lower my shade, I turn the ignition to "on" and my leveling jacks retract. Any one have this problem? This can't be by design, can it?

Precept has Power gear leveling system. Power gear has a built in feature with ignition. When ignition is engaged jacks will retract so you don't attempt to drive off with jacks down. This is the only product Jayco builds with Power gear jacks everything else has Big foot which doesn't have this nice built in feature.

The POWER GEAR system on our SENECA never did that it only self retracted when the parking brake was released. It's a shame that the BIG FOOT system in not on the PRECEPT it is a much better system, we had that on our 01 DESIGNER MH.

Thanks guys
At least now I know that it is designed to do that ( right or wrong, I'll get use to it ) and maybe there is something I can do about the shade.

Is there an accessory position that will allow you to move the shade?

Good thought but nothing that will work without the ignition on.

Hi Bob,
2 things to remark from my side:
The shades should work with the ignition OFF. That is if we are talking about the same shades, the windshield shade. I operate it with not even the keys in. I agree that when the sahde is fully down and I swith on the ignition, the shade goes up until the maximum lowered level set while driving. A safety feature to prevent the shade goed fully down while driving.
The leveling jacks: I had this once, they retracted when I turned on the ignition. All other times, I had to retract them by "hand". So I guess there is no safety feature.
I was thinking about this and unfortunately I cannot check my suspicion (I am in Europe now) but I think I forgot to switch off the system when I turned off the ignition after lowering the jacks.
When in position, I start the leveling system, lower the jacks, turn off the system and then switch off the engine.
Now I suspect that when you turn off the engine / ignition when the system still ON, the jacks retract immediately when the ignition is switched ON again.
Like I said, it's a hunch which I can't check at the moment.
But sure you have to able to operate the windshield shade with ignition off.

You are right in respect to the shade operating w/o ignition on. Relative to the jacks, they are designed to retract when the ignition is put on, whether or not the system was turned off when the engine was turned off. It's the Mfg's way of a safety feature.
thanks again
Bob

I think the parking brake is also part of this deal. I can start my engine and let the A/C get going while I am doing the checklist before travel. Raising the jacks are second to last thing which is release park brake. They stay down as long as the park brake is set, engine running or not. Release the brake and the jacks come up if ign. is on.
