If that is the case you might consider reporting the problem to NHTSA. Excess heat could cause a fire and cups and the doghouse getting hot could cause a safety distraction. If enough folks report the problem it might initiate a recall.

I'm curious, why would you trust the replacement plug wires from Ford?

@Dougtx This is so frustrating, I"m sorry your dealing with this. I've placed a deposit on a new 2021 Alante 31v with the V8 engine and your post has me wondering if I'm making the right decision. I can still back out. Have you made any progress or is your truck still sitting at a repair shop?

Just gave my 2 week old 295 mile 2020 F450 King Ranch Truck back to Ford Motor Credit due to burned spark plug wires. 4 Dealers told me that there are no replacement wires available for the next 60 days. Due to supplier vendor shortage because factory has been shut down and the Assembly plant gets first shot at parts. They are on National Backorder, I found 3 Dealers that had trucks waiting on plug wires. I told them I would not wait that long. My selling dealer still had my old F450 V-10 on his lot . Ford Credit told him to give me my old truck back To me and they would Void out all paperwork . I told Dealer I would wait for the 2021 models to come out and will come back and get me one..Been driving Ford’s since 1963,,they allways take care of me.....If I was you I would not buy one rite now, maybe find a leftover V-10 tried and proven. But the 7.3 will be a good engine just has a few bugs to work out like all New engines have....

Thanks for taking the time Florida Ranger, This 2021 Alante 31V was very difficult to find as stock is low across the country, and as much as I love the floorplan and features, I sure don't want to spend that kind of money on a vehicle I wont be able to use for months. Your post may have saved me from a 100k mistake. so thank uuuuu.

So with all the other stories about the truck's wires burning up, not just motorhomes, it sounds like it's really a Ford issue.

The heat may still be a problem for Jayco, but it sounds like burning up plug wires/coils would now be a known Ford issue.

And I agree that I'm not sure I would trust a Ford OEM replacement at this point. They will just end up putting in the same wires as the originals as I doubt they have revised that spec yet...?

Correct on the OEM comment, my dealer confirmed they had 2 spare cables but they were OEM and any aftermarket wires are not available at the moment

Icon Alexander,, I heard from a reliable source that if you check with some RV manufacturers that there may still be some F53 chassis with the V-10 if you would prefer that. It will probably take some time to find one. But if I was you I would only get the floor plan that you want. My Ford Dealer tells me that the 2021 model 7.3 V-8 will be available in late November early December. So waiting 3 months to order a RV ,,Also be sure to request (demand) a 2021 model engine it can be done..It will have all updated parts...

I hear and appreciate your problem with FORD-JAYCO-DEALER. I would not use any of them for any work on my rig. The spark plug wires being messed-up in a ne rig really stinks. However, wires are cheap and can be purchased almost anywhere. If you have a good large vehicle shop near you, stop in, tell them your problem, and there's a 99% chance that they've seen this before and can get you going in as long as it will take to get a ne set, set, of wires for your rig. You might even ask them to look over the ford part of the rig while they're there to see if there are any other surprises.
I bet you will spend ~ $200 including parts and labor.

In my experience, motorhome warranty work is slow, poorly done, and costly even though they will at first tell you it's free. My approach now is, MH coach repairs performed by MR MOBILE service, chasis/engine repairs at large truck garage. Since I've been doing this, MH runs like a top, and coach repairs are perfect, not to mention can be submitted to JAYCO for reimbursement.

TFL did a video today highlighting this issue, and the lack of parts.

Grumpy, How "early" are the early ones that blew plugs?

The early version. The heads only had about 4 threads holding the plugs in. If I remember correctly the 2002 and beyond had deeper threads.

You should be good to go with that model year. Not late enough to have the new 7.3L gas V-8 (the cause for this thread), and plenty late enough to have had the "ejecting spark plug" problem worked out.

If I remember right, I think the spitting plug issue started in 99, and it got corrected in 2003. I had a 2003.

That's the one 1HasBeen mentioned in #51.

Thanks for putting up the video, I actually went and hunted it down last week after that post.
