Calling all psi gurus

Ok, just had Alante 31V CAT scale weighed. Full tank of gas and 1/3 on fresh water tank. Trips to TN and FL before end of year.

Jayco says 82psi all around, cold.

GVWR=18,000 lbs
GCWR=23,000 lbs

CAT scale report…

5,680 lbs steer axle
11,520 lbs drive axle

Gross Weight=17,200 lbs

Not towing.

What would you set cold tires to? See Goodyear chart. 245’s. Maybe just stick with 82?

Ready GO!

I installed D rated Goodyear Endurance vs Chineese Raineer crud C rated. Based on my Goodyear chart 55 psi was the right pressure for the load. Sidewall max of 65 shook the camper to the point doors popped open and the shelves emptied on the floor. Pressure on the Rv tag said 50 PSI but that would be to low for the load.
My advice, go with the Goodyear chart for the actual load as measured. But don't forget, it you change the loading, change the pressure.

Always go by tire manufacturers air pressure specifications on all applications. Most vehicle manufacturers want it to ride the best not considering tire heat or wear problems from low air!

My coach placard states 82 psi, my tires are the same as yours G670 and i air them to 100 cold and just monitor them. Listed on the tire is cold pressure high is 110 and at that level the ride is rough. In cold weather they drop to around 94 and warm up to around 104 while driving. In hot weather they heat up to around 110-114. I have a TPMS and always check the air pressure before I take off, if it is above 94 and they are all within 2-5 pounds of each other at any given time I don't worry about it. I have found the best ride to be around 94 -100 psi. I know I am above the placard PSI of 82 and below the tire manufacture of max cold 110. I have never run the tires at 82 psi so technically that could be the best ride but i am good with how it rides at the levels I am using. Additionally, that extra air gives me a little confidence that if I was to get a slow leak my TPMS would alert before it hit below the 82psi listed on the placard. I don't worry about it and have never had an issue with tire wear, blow outs etc. Hope that gives you a little perspective.

I did the math - and the manufacturer's placard was close

We weighed the loaded (full water, full fuel, supplies, etc.) 2018 Alante 31R and then referenced the Goodyear charts for the Goodyear G670 RV tires and calculated 79-80 lbs. The factory tire card stated 82lbs. I expect that if we were loaded to the maximum chassis' 20,500 lbs capacity, the math would have landed on 82 lbs.

We were previously running 90-100 lbs. I now usually run 81-84 lbs cold. (I tend to be more attentive to all four tires having equal cold pressure, then being exactly 82 lbs.) The ride seems better at the lower pressure, and I am confident that we are still at a 'safe' pressure with plenty of headroom for hot tires. At running temperatures in the summer, the pressures can push 100-110.

I also used a TPMS, so I can quickly see if things are starting to go sideways. One great thing about the TPMS is that I can check the cold pressure on every tire EVERY time at a glance. Plus, it alarms when pressures or temperatures go too low or high.

Thanks SamJ, that is nice to know. I may just drop my pressure from what I stated in my previous post and see if the ride is even better than it is now. I have a trip coming up to SC from NM so will see what the real difference is......

Yep, stuck with 82 without towing. Best overall on trip from Ohio to Tenn and back. Highways are horrendous. 1/3 tank of fresh and full gas to/from.

The inner dually got to about 107psi
