Chassis A/C cycling cold/warm

Good Evening Fellow RVers,

Last couple of trips, when it was hot/humid out, my wife and I noticed that the AC unit coming from the coach would cycle cold and warm. Couldn't really give conditions (speed of travel, hills, frequency, etc.) but we would notice that we felt warmer and the air coming out of vents was not particularly cold. Then after a little time, it would come out cold.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

tom

I have seen drain tubes plug up allowing water to build up in the evaporator case causing it to freeze up and shut the compressor off until it thaws. The first thing I would check is the drain.

That may not apply to the coach unit? I'm not clear which unit the question is about?

For clarity, of which I lack, this is the A/C from the chassis, the Ford component of the unit.

I would look at the drain line in that case. Also if the warm air is pretty humid it could be a sign it froze up.

an age old problem on our prior motorhome... Ours had the vacuum actuated air mixing damper - when you are pulling hard up a hill there is not enough vacuum to keep the damper in full-cold position until you reach the summit and pull your foot out of the throttle.

I do not have one I would follow the high pressure line off the engine a/c compressor typically the smaller diameter line. It should go to the hvac case this is where I would look for the lines at.
