Check gas cap warning?

Had this flash up on the dash of my 2016 Precept 35US this week it is resettable from the instrument panel.

We just turned 10k miles and this is the first time I’ve seen it. I checked the cap by twisting until it clicked a few times but it happened again this morning when I started home.

Ideas?

Check all the hoses to the evap canister make sure non are loose.

Gas caps can go bad. Look at the rubber seal and make sure there are not cracks or other defects. Also, the spring may be failing.

If you don't find any loose hoses or problems in the Evap system it could be the cap. If you only have 10 K on your unit is it may still be under warranty. The Evaporation system is probably part of the emissions control system which have extended warranties (5/50) by Federal law. Check with your chassis brand dealer.

What he said.....if the system doesn't have a seal it gives the error, Like Roger said, check the gas cap first.

I figured as much regarding the gas cap. Now that we are back home I can give it some attention.

Wonder where Ford put the EVAP canister on my F53 chassis? The only time I've been underneath is to do the CHF front and rear. I assume it's near the gas tank?

Funny, I managed to leave my cap off yesterday, but discovered it today when I went to add fuel. I was surprised that I never got a warning light!

Now that's just plain weird.

The gas cap warning light will not come on unless there has been an emissions leak and a fuel level change in your tank. So the leak will set an internal code that waits for a fuel level change. It's more complicated that this but that's why you did not see a warning yet.
The typical leak is at one of the hoses that attach to the carbon canister.

Took my coach in for an oil change yesterday, had the mechanic check the Evaporator hoses. Sure enough, the hose from the tank filler tube had a hole chewed by some hungry critter.

I suspect it started when a wayward armadillo kept trying to make his home under my dual wheels on the driver side while we were in FL for the winter. Don't know why it took so long for the problem to manifest itself unless I'm mistaken about who done it. We have some pesky coons in our summer campground on the Ohio River so it's possible I'm blaming the wrong culprit.

At any rate my problem is solved, no more loose gas cap warning.
