Sounds like a good idea. I think it's worth looking into and trying your solution.

Just turn your head sideways and it will make sense :-)

PVC coupler painted black , diameter measures 3.5 inches, fits into the existing cup holder and works great with my Contigo.

I just ordered 4 of the following cup holder inserts: Seachoice
3/8 hose fitting drain hole on bottom, Color Black, Size 4-5/16 OD x 4-1/4 Depth, Hole 4-1/4. The part number is Seachoice SCP 79430, and they are $0.94 each at boatstore.com, or $1.02 at Discountmarinesupplies.com. They should arrive next week, and I shall post more details when they arrive. For $4.08 how could I go wrong! 3-5 day shipping was $9.99.

Is the plan to remove the existing cupholder with the coffee mug handle cutout? If so, what's your plan to cover up that cutout where the coffee mug handle went?

My plan is to cut the original cupholder just below the lip and then glue the new cupholder onto the original, with the lip of the new one up against the lip of the original. The I shall screw the cupholder back into the existing hole in the cutout and put back the snap on trim piece. Very similar to what NickM did in post #14 and finemess did in post #7. Their work and other suggestions on this forum got me thinking of how I could do this. Thanks for their pictures, obviously worth a 1,000 words.
We bought insulated coffee mugs without handles so that we can use the cupholders in the couch, coffee table and the new ones beside the passenger and driver.
