Drawers Won't Stay Latched

2014 Jayco Precept: Drawers in kitchen come open when traveling, what kind of latch will work better than wimpy factory latches?

Welcome to the constantly opening drawer club. We would get to our site and the drawers were open and the last time the drawer gliders were broken on the bottom drawer with all the bearings all around the TT on the floor. Never did locate all of them. I have tried 3 different lock types with no luck, sooooooo I made my own. I mounted a 3/8" x 3" Eye bolt in the back side of the drawers and cut an opening in the panel between the drawers and the shelves under the kitchen sink. I cut a piece of dowel rod and slide it through the eyebolt when the drawer is closed. Since doing this we have not had a problem. Not sure if you can do this to your drawers...

Thanks Don, we are definitely members of the constantly opening drawer club and have had similar mishaps on the road! Your solution is a great one and love the picture. Unfortunately that won't work for our configuration, drawers are on a slide and sink is fixed so no access when the slide is in. We are going to try the old baby lock solution which will probably drive us crazy because you have to unlatch every time you open the drawer. Desperate measures for peace on the road

Drawer catches of differing ratings can be bought. Check your latches and try to upgrade to a heavier rating, measured in pounds.

If they are the "male/female" type like they use on the PINNACLE you may just need to spread the male side out a little bit. Use a straight blade screw driver and gently spread the sides of the latch until it tighten up.

Leaving soon on a cross country, coast to coast adventure, will be great to have drawers staying put. Will try both suggestions, stronger rated fasteners and spreading the male piece if necessary.
