Electrical Power issues

My power awning and power seats are not working.

Firstly the seats.
I checked the voltage from the battery at the power leads just by the seats on the red and white leads, and is showing as 12.5v. However though the battery is old and green light has gone out but still starts the RV engine first time. I then got some new leads connected to the battery and bypassed the “in RV wiring” and put the 12v directly to the seats input lines. Again 12.5 v but with this they work just fine. Same with the power awning. While they still reading 12v, somewhere it’s like the power vanished and not strong enough to power the motors. Any ideas?

Which seats are you referring to, the driver and passenger, or the power theatre seating? You mentioned the starting battery being strong enough to start the engine, but if we're referring to the awning and the power theatre seats, those are more than likely powered by the house batteries. Check the fuses in the 12v panel. My panel has an idiot light to show which fuses are blown. As such the wiring can show 12v, but it doesn't have enough amperage to do anything.

Hi I did find that the awning was in the RV fuse panel and had blown so now just have the issue with both the driver and passenger seats. Even with a brand new battery the seats are not moving despite seeing a 12.5v between hot and ground wires that peer them. I even hooked up the old battery directly to the seat inputs and they work perfectly. So somewhere power is being lost

Do the seats work when the engine is running? If not, you may have the same issue with a blown fuse or something similar that is allowing voltage through, but no amperage. I would check the chassis fuse panel for blown fuses as well. You may have to trace the wires to find out where they go to see where the problem is.

Seats don’t work either with or without the engine being turned on. I can see a fuse panel in front of the drivers seat. Are there any more fuse locations?

It would help if you would post what year and model RV you have.

It’s a Jayco Precept 2014 31UL

I got underneath and found where the wires run. There is no fuse in between battery and seats.
From the battery there is a terminal on the chassis for hot and neutral. It’s very strange as when I connect a new line to that terminal and to seats it works but both old and new wiring show same voltage. All I can think is that somewhere there may be a short so I will relate the lines.

That's certainly odd that you have voltage but its not working. So there's no fuse block or anything between the seat and battery? That's odd as well.

Happened to be looking at my 2016 31ul schematic today for something else but noticed that the electric seats appeared to be fused in the house Battery compartment. There is a Fuse block and 3 inline fuses, you might check there. I believe the in lines supply the isolator and the master shut off. Good luck tracing a 20 ft wiring harness if the fuses aren't there .

FYI, there is a Precept and Alante Facebook group that has schematics and wiring diagrams in PDF form available on the site.
