Emblem/Precept Roof Clearance lights

Anyone change one of the roof clearance bulbs yet?

Jayco says lens cap pops out to get to bulb from outside.

I have a 2018 Alante that needed a clearance light. The front clearance lights are hard wired LEDs that are not designed for serviceability. Replacement required a cutting the original connecting wires and using a wire crimping tool and connectors. The lens and light are an integrated unit. Perhaps the Precept is different. The rear lights look more conventional, but being LEDs, I suspect those too are hard wired. (Older units might have conventional builds.)

It is a major pain in the heine to replace. Had to do two of them in the front. Learned the hard way... first by trying to see how they are wired up from the inside I had to remove various panels. They are caulk in with a liberal amount of caulk. This took me about 4 hours to replace one (I am not as handy as some but I can DYI)

The second one took a lot less time because I worked from the outside. Using needle nose pliers and a blade was able to get it out. About a week later someone posted an much better method. They said to drill a whole through the center of the light and then screw in a screw that will screw in nice and snug. Then use a pair of pliers to pry it out. I am hoping I don't have to try it but at least I hopefully will have an easier time.

Hey Fizipal,

(After reading a few stories on owner experiences) I used the outside in route. The original problem was the unlit LED. After replacing the light using professional grade crimps, tools, etc., all seemed good. A few months later, the same light was out!

Turns out, the condition is intermittent. I've made a habit of checking the lights ever time I can, and noticed that about one time in four it is out, and the other three times it looks normal. So now I am speculating this is a wire harness issue.

Has anyone experienced intermittent function of individual clearance lights? Is this a common issue?

I'd rather not drop the headliner to fix, but that might be necessary! :-(
