Filling the Precept Fresh Water Tank

In reading my owners manual, it states that when filling the fresh water holding tank to NOT over fill it. Can anyone tell me how to do this alone? The only way I can see is have two people, one inside at the level indicator and one outside to shut off. This can't be how this is done. I'm new to a Class A. I'm use to stopping when the overflow starts.

Overfilling might create an syphoning effect. If the vent hoses from the FW tank are proper installed (al least a 2 ft. high loop) then this will not happen.

Can't speak to the Precept specifically, but on my Entegra Vision 31v which is a Jayco Allante 31v, when the tank is full, you will see/hear the water come out the overflow line. On my coach, I can see the fresh tank from the propane/hydraulic bay on the curb side, so I watch it, then walk around to the wet bay and turn the water off.

X2 on what Aljo said about the siphoning... Best to check to make sure you have the proper looping in the overflow.

Just a thought here about filling the FW tank completely. Unless you are boondocking or camping somewhere with no water hookups, filling the tank when traveling is a lot of extra weight which in turn will reduce your fuel mileage to some extent. We have a 2018 31UL and fill only to 1/3 full. This allows us to have water while traveling for the toilet and washing. Our FW tank holds 71.5 gallons. At 1/3 full it actually rides and handles a little better but I'm sure each model is a little different. Good luck and welcome to this forum!!

Not sure specifically on your unit but on my seneca I removed the cover from the bay and I cut an observation port so I could see the actual level of the tank. Works great so I can turn it off just before it overflows.

My 2016 Precept 35S has an overflow port. Easy to see from the fill port in the water cabinet.

I only fill mine when disinfecting the tank. There is an overflow, when water hits the ground I turn it off. Also on 31ul I can see tank from sewer cabinet.

We camp several times a year in Ohio and their state parks seldom have water hookups at the sites, so you have to tank the RV when you arrive.

you can do it alone. your full sensor most likely isnt all the way at the top of your FW tank. and you might have a overflow/vent hose on your tank. so when it reads full you should have time to shut the hose off. most likely the manual says that to prevent building pressure in the tank and possibly damaging it.

We’re trying to put water in the fresh water tank but it’s not showing any water and none come through when we turn the pump motor on. But my black tank is showing a water level. We are trying to dewinterize.

Ignore the level LED's, they are rarely correct. Your valves levers need to be in the correct position to fill the FW tank. It's been 4 month since I've looked in my water compartment but there are I think 5 positions for each valve. One combination of those positions will let you add water. I think mine is labeled "country fill" or "tank fill", something similar. Keep trying valve combinations until you get it. You can't overfill the tank, there is an overflow port near the top and water will start pouring on the ground.

Good luck

Buy a water gauge for your hose

I bought a water meter that attaches to my hose.
That way I know exactly how many gallons I am putting in my tank. Takes the guesswork out of the equation.

I have a 2015 Precept 35 UN and have never had a problem with filling
I fill till it spills. But why carry all that weight around.
if you find there is siphoning happening it's problem on more then one front.
just my two cents.
