Should the engine have high rpms when the tow haul comes to a stop.

The truck uses engine braking/transmission downshifting to assist with slowing down the vehicle, so yes, the RPMs will go up when you are braking, as the transmission shifts to assist with braking.

I've seen them go as high as 4000 - 4250 when downshifting on a hill trying to come to a stop, not sure what is "normal" but i've seen that multiple times. Just had this happen yesterday on my way back from middle Ga. It can be disconcerting the first time it happens, but its designed for it and the V10 can handle higher RPMs than you think.

+1

That's about what I've experienced in my Class C.

Sometimes I find the engine braking to be a bit aggressive, like when exiting a freeway. But most times I REALLY appreciate it.

Bob, is that the V10 as well? Just curious, not looked into the Class Cs.. I'm told and have experienced that the V10 will rev pretty high for a larger engine.

Depending upon the grade mine will hit 4K shifting into a gear that keeps it from becoming a runaway.

With my Duramax and exhaust or turbo breaking 3500 was normal.

Trust the computers in the vehicle. They will not let it damage itself.

Yes, both chassis (F-53 and E-450) have the same engine. And that goes for Ford's new "Gorilla" 7.3L V-8 as well. They're putting that engine in both new chassis, along with commensurate upgrades to each. The rear end ratio is different IIRC.

Yes, gas motors were born to rev. That's where most of their power is made. That's also one reason many choose a diesel engine. Diesel makes A LOT more torque much lower in the RPM band.
