Great river road

Good morning everyone,

Has anyone on the forum driven on the "great river road," which I believe is
I-55, either south from Mississippi to Minnesota or vice versa and if you have, do you recommend this trip?

I-55 ends in Chicago.

It's another expressway, bypassing all the really cool things to see along the way.

The river North of Memphis is more scenic, I like the section north of the quad cities to Minneapolis the best

Do you have the map? You can order it free online (experiencemississippiriver.com). It goes from Venice, Louisiana (just south of New Orleans) to New Itasca, Minnesota (just north of Grand Rapids), sometimes on interstate and sometimes on back roads. There are some really beautiful little river towns along the route. Do order the map - it's very detailed, and you need that to navigate. The whole route is 2,159 miles long. We've only driven portions of it, but some day...

The Great River Road (east side) is primarily US 61. We just did the section from New Orleans to Memphis. Pleasant drive away from the interstates thru some very rural countryside. While close to the river, you don't see much of the river unless you get off the highway. We stayed in Vidalia, LA, Vicksburg, MS, Lake Village, AR and West Memphis, AR. We had sites right on the river in Vidalia and West Memphis. Did sight seeing from these areas. Will do north of Memphis on a future trip.

Look into US-84. From central/northern Illinois thru Wisconsin is awesome.
