Inverter question when dry-camping

When dry-camping with the generator running, do we turn on the inverter?

Why?

An inverter is normally used to provide 110V from your 12V battery... but doesn't your generator already give you 110?

No you don't need to use the inverter unless you are not plugged in to shore power or not running the generator. It will only power 110 plugs that are connected to it. Not all the plugs and accessories. Mine powers my tvs and few select plugs.

If the generator is running everything should work just as if it was plugged into shore power.

If you use the inverter it will extend the recharge time as the battery will have to be recharged for whatever you use out of it to power the inverter. Both the battery charger and inverter are not anywhere near 100% efficient so it would add a lot of time running the generator over using 110 Volt. RV outlets or plugging directly into the generator

Depends on your system. On our Seneca, when you start the generator the inverter goes into bypass mode which sends 110 directly through the inverter via an internal relay. As soon as you turn the generator off, it automatically switches to inverter move. Only way to know for your system is to check the manual, manufacturer or list exactly what inverter you have....lots of different one out there.
