Jayco Precept/Seneca Factory Tour - Good/Bad?

We recently took the Jayco factory tour of the Precept/Seneca production lines and wanted to share some thoughts....

TIP 1: Do NOT take any tour later than 1PM.
The production line shuts down at 1:30PM. We took the 2PM tour and they literally turned off the lights as we started the tour.

TIP 2: Do NOT Expect Much
The tour was enlightening as we got to see the various components being installed, where water lines, etc. are run. That was good. Unfortunately you quickly realize just how inexpensively made the Precepts are - floor is 5/8 particle board on top of aluminum/foam. Carpet underlayment is barely 1/8 thick. Sidewalls are relatively thin.

TIP 3: Watch your Step
Screws, trash, misc. parts, whole cutouts, etc. are strewn everywhere, including inside your RV (under cabinets, etc.).

TIP 4: Jayco Customer Service Cares
The folks giving the tour were great, as is everyone we met at Jayco. Their customer service, once you get in the door, is terrific. They genuinely want to make your RV right.

We are planning on taking the tour on March 24th, Our 35UN is in for some warranty work and to install a sliding door to the bedroom instead of the accordion door. Our coach is currently in the service bay, the major work is the living slide room, Since I actually bought the prototype of the 35un, mine says 36un on the outside, the slide room was not installed to the production standards. they are making it right along with my other issues and upgrades.

Customer Service Lounge

Enjoy your trip hope they make all the necessary changes. Ask for Scottie Simmerman he is a good guy and will take care of you.

Also ask if you can use the Entegra coach customer lounge as the Jayco customer lounge (if you call a hallway with three chairs a lounge) is under construction.

Thanks for the tip! I am dealing with Roger Johnson, Customer service manager for motorhome division, He has been nothing less of fantastic. So far I can see why Jayco has such a great customer service reputation.

Roger has been terrific for us too! We've had minor issues in the 18 months we've owned ours and he's been there for us the entire way.

We took the tour last summer and had some minor repair work done there too while in Middlebury. We found it eye-opening in good and bad ways. it would be great if you'd ask them how many Precepts they build a day and then post the answer here.

Good luck with everything and safe travels!

Production Numbers for Seneca/Precept

During our tour last week the tour guide stated Jayco manufactures 7-9 Precepts/Senecas per day. They are both produced on the same line and in batches. The day we were they 1/2 the line was precepts and the other 1/2 was Senecas. The only build difference is the chassis.

They also stated they had approx. 190 more 2016 precepts to produce before they would switch over to the 2017 models.

Interesting, sjarr. When we were there last summer, the tour guide said they were building 14 a day and that line was only for Precepts and Alantes. They were building Precepts that day.

I've since been told by a Jayco employee that 14 a day was incorrect, but none the less, I was a bit disturbed at how fast they seem to be trying to construct them and move the line.

We'll be taking a factory tour mid-June. Thanks for the info especially on the time frame. Roger Johnson has been a tremendous CS ambassador as we experienced some trials with our Bertha. We'll actually be attending the Fleetwood Rally in Decatur, IN June 8-12 as a vendor, then drive a couple of hours north for a few days.
McGarrett50, did you stay at the Shipshewana Trading Place RV park or Shipshewana CG south?
