Mud Dauber
We noticed a smell on the 2nd night if running the furnace. I checked the flow of air from the exhaust port and it seemed low. Shined a flashlight in the pipe and saw an obstruction. I took the cover off, and the pipe attached inside the furnace. Broke up the nest with a screwdriver and vacuumed it out.
It has a screen on it, but it was a used unit and didn't have one when I bought it.
It works good now. I'm surprised that it even worked with that in there.

Screens all around!
I hate those insects, they are always around our pool gathering mud and then building their mud tube-cave inside my garage behind anything that is touching the wall. I've read somewhere on this forum that claims that using these screens over the furnace exhaust will restrict the air too much causing shortened furnace life. I tend to not agree with that one based on my experience. But if this IS the case, maybe only keep the screens on while not using the camper.

I need to have a screen on there, in Iowa. I think the screens that are sold for this purpose do not restrict the exhaust flow. However, a screen with a mesh similar to a window screen probably would restrict the flow.

Had that happen to my last camper I bought used except it burned up all my wires from the heat. You would think they could design something from the OEM that would keep them out.

We put screens on everything. Water heater door, furnace outlet, and outside fridge access panel. They've kept bugs out, all except the tiniest spiders. Happy with the way they work, and it was an excuse to go shopping!

I've been thinking that I need to check the fridge, too. Thanks.

I had nests in my furnace and water heater. Water heater fan wouldn't turn and gave me the overcurrent error. Manufacturer wanted $600 for a new fan, and said it had to be installed by an authorized repair place. I removed 3 screws, took out the fan, saw the nest, cleaned it out, put everything back. runs great. Am I now an authorized repairer??? Bought a big screen to cover that opening.

Tgoldsbury, I don't have a fan on my water heater. I did check my fridge vent and found a dead mouse and a paper wasp nest. Gonna have to put a screen on it.

After multiple paper and mud wasp nests I put screens on everything --- until I took off the AC intake on the roof for the side AC. Looks like a large fridge roof vent. Under it was 1/2 inch mesh that would keep out mice and birds but not wasps, mosquitos, etc. I covered it with aluminum screen wire as the AC air flow will not be much affected.
