Overhead storage door hinge pulled out

A hinge on one of the storage doors over the sofa in our 31UL came loose. The screw holding it pulled out of the wood. There is a lot of torque on those hinges and it just didn't hold. I tried a larger screw but the wood frame is not very thick and that didn't hold either. I filled the hole with plastic wood filler and I'm waiting for it to harden but I'm not confident it will hold. Any suggestions or similar encounters?

I have had to repair a few screws in my Precept. The method I use is to stick a toothpick as far into screw hole as possible and break it off even with surface. Do this several times - maybe 4 - 6 times depending on screw size, and then run screw back into repaired hole. The hole is now refilled with wood and the threads will grab good. This type of repair normally comes out nice and strong.

Thanks for that idea modoc. I let the plastic wood harden and drilled a new hole. I dipped the screw in Elmer's glue and it actually held but I still have no confidence. If it loosens again I'll try your idea.

Another approach if the hole just won't take any fixes is to drill the spot through with a 1/4" hole and insert a precut cut to length cross grain dowel. Make sure you use a good glue. Match up the stain and put in another screw. I've done this and it has come out very well.

Another option would be to drill completely through the existing screw hole, then use an appropriately sized flat head machine screw, with a washer, lock washer and nut securing it on the backside. No chance of a pullout with that method.

I've had a bunch of the screws on the cabinet doors come out on my camper. I'm fairly certain they use screw guns at the factory, and I suspect they are over-torquing them. So far, I've been able to resolve every issue with larger screws.

Get the door replaced under warranty. No reason to be fixing these kind of manufacturing errors in the first 2 years. I had a front door come apart and my service center didn't even ask me - they just ordered a new door and replaced it.

Smokerbill this screw goes up from the bottom of the cabinet face and not through from front to back so your suggestion won't work in this case but thanks for everyone's comments. I will talk to my dealer about replacing the piece under warranty

I have fixed stripped screw holes with golf tee and gorilla wood glue worked great

Covered under warranty. Talk to Jayco CS if your dealer doesn't help.
