Patriot Braking System

I have a Jayco Precept 2022 and am towing a truck with the Patriot braking system. When I reached my destination today I discovered my truck was completely dead. Any suggestions as to what can be done so I do not drain my truck battery when towing?

What you need is a "charge line" from your rig to keep the truck's battery charged. Various companies make wiring kits that include a fuse to protect the wiring and diodes to keep the truck's charging system from backfeeding into your Precept. Your Precept's 7-pole tow wiring connector should have a positive 12-volt pin able to send current to your towed truck.

Some vehicles require the battery to be disconnected when towing, make sure your vehicle doesn't require it in its towing preparations.

Agree with what Robbyr stated.

Two options I can think of, the first is to provide a charge line to your battery. The second option is to provide power directly from the coach to your 12 volt power requirement for the Patriot brake system. This would require a cigarette lighter receptacle to plug into. You would be completely by passing your vehicle power.

Thanks for responding. I discovered that my truck headlights were on while traveling and that is what drained my battery. When setting up the braking system I forgot to turn off the start button on my truck.

Something else to consider, I found out that on my 2020 Ford F150 the aux power shuts off after 45 minutes. After 45 minutes of driving my Patriot monitor said it couldn't see the system. I added an additional cigarette lighter receptacle under the dash wired directly to my F150 battery, and then also added the charge cable to charge the F150 battery from the Jayco.
