Precept 31UL Parking Brake won't fully release

So the foot lever itself does release when I pull the release handle, but there is a little play with the lever. The light remains on, but if I nudge the parking brake pedal/lever just a little, the light comes off, it will stay that way until I hit the smallest bump and the light comes back on and beeps at me. Anyone have this issue? I can hold it with my foot, but that isn't going to do the trick. Anyone?

1. Cable may be stretched and need an adjustment.
2. One or more of the cables to rear brakes might be binding?
3. Parking brake mechanism at one or both may be binding and not fully retracting parking brake shoes inside rear rotor hat. 2 or 3 may cause parking brakes to drag building heat and effecting fuel economy.

Thanks, I'll have to check the cables. The brake itself is not engaged. It's literally a millimeter of play to get the light to come off.

Typically start by the left front corner by the frame. The cable to the rear brakes is usually two parts with an adjuster mechanism between them.

Check the switch that the brake pedal engages when brakes are applied. It may be a tad loose or need to be adjusted a bit away from the brake lever when brakes are released. The brake light and buzzers are controlled by this switch.

Could be wrong, but I believe we have a driveline brake on all of our F-53 chassis. There may, in fact, be an adjustment to be made but it won't be at the wheels. The driveline parking brake is the reason it is dangerous to lift even one of the rear duals off the ground ....... the vehicle is free to roll (via the differential) even though the driveline brake is engaged; i.e., if even one of the rear duals is off the ground, you don't have a parking brake. E450 chassis....same thing.

The parking brake is certainly not engaged, I think the lever/pedal is simply loose, causing the sensor to go on.

Thank you, that sounds more like what is going on, I'll check that.

Ok, so I think i have a temporary solution, if I pull the brake lever up past the clicking (sensor) line, while holding the release lever, then let go of the release lever, the brake pedal stays high enough and doesn't trip the sensor. I'll have it looked at by a pro when I need to bring it in for service. Thanks for all the input. One thing I didn't mention, is that there is a clicking from the little play in the lever. Above the click, no light or sensor, below the click, there obviously was a light and sensor.

You will most likely have to remove the seat to get down there. I know I did, I also moved the fuse panel so I could get to it without having to remove it if I blew a fuse.

Try adding a spring to pull pedal up
