Precept 31UL TV Fix

I've aware that it's not safe to have the dinette TV functioning while driving however...

Kids don't understand why they cannot watch a show on a long drive

Has anyone successfully removed the cutoff so that TV can be watched by passengers while driving? I've seen some threads regarding outlets however not on this TV. Before I remove the window valence or the panel under the table to figure it out I figured I would ask the experts. Please help.

Hi Zipperhead, Welcome and Congratulations on your 31 UL. I have seen threads/posts regarding this. One of them indicated they called Jayco customer service and instructed on changing the wiring. I also understood that later models of Precepts have TVs that are operational all the time.

In most cases you have to find the 12V wire that senses the engine running and cut it.

In the 35UN there is another outlet in the shelf under the counter that is powered by the inverter. You can reach behind the cabinet and unplug the tv from the "safety" outlet and plug into the under cabinet outlet. If the 31 is setup the same, this will work without modifying anything electrically and possibly voiding your warranty.

Oh and if you are succesful, shades down so tv can't be seen from outside. I've heard of tickets being issued from othets on this forum.

Thanks for the responses. Put me in the right direction. I finally opened the panel to figure out what was going on. While I like the TV slide it sure is a PITA to work around.

There is indeed a single plug in the compartment with a 12V cut off. No second plug inside - it's outside in the dinette. But at least I found a plug (next to TV) for expanding. So I'm now playing around with the plugs trying to determine how I want the AppleTV installed

The bedroom TV in my 31ul has to be viewed straight on to look bright enough to see. When you're laying in bed looking at the tv at a 45 degree angle the picture is dark. What the heck were they thinking????

They weren't thinking!

Now that I have the living room TV functional, sound through the ceiling, blue tooth mic installed, this will be my next task (oh and my Nav doesn't work). Did you purchase a new tilt mount? Looking for one that fits in seamlessly.

chuckandcindy and zipper head, from my mods thread:

The TV in the bedroom was mounted completely vertical which causes the viewing angle while laying in the bed to have a very dark picture. So I bought (2) 4mm x .7 20mm screws. I took the tv off the bracket and replaced the top two screws with the above and added (8) #8 flat washers. This tilted the TV forward and significantly improved the picture. I probably could have used (10). Much better and I'm surprised they shipped them without having done something similar. Cost about $1.50.

I haven't done anything to change the TV mount angle but your idea with the washers sounds good. I'll try that.

All of my items were purchased at Home Depot. I took out the top screws while my wife held the tv and slightly loosened the bottoms screws. It was a bit of a pain lining it all up and definitely required a second set of hands and a few expletives. But definitely worth it.

Good solution! I ended up mounting these Robot Check. Had to drill new holes but the end result was very good.

Hey Zip does the new mount you installed have a locking mechanism to keep if from free swinging?

There is no lock out. I tightened the bolts down so it's a stiffer adjustment (tilt easy but in and out / left and right stiff). Still easy enough to adjust but stiff enough not to bounce around. On our last 400 mile drive I don't think it moved at all.
