Prop open a frameless Egress window...?
We have a brand new rig. The windows that "flip" out are all frameless. They are lovely and seal quite well. Except for the very back (stern) egress window, they all have screens. Even the other bedroom egress window has a screen.
Our first solo trip is coming up this weekend, so today, we went to the storage lot and did a few things. It was easy enough to cool the rig down quickly, especially with that big window propped open (with a pillow, so not very far). It would be a lot easier/nicer if we could really prop it to 80 degrees or so.
Every DIY/mod I've googled relies on a frame around the window...so the PVC/other stick has something to rest against.
Anyone have a trick for holding that window open? If we do prop it open, we'll also need a cushion in case the prop fails and the window falls/slams against the rig.
Also, anyone know how to add a screen to it? I'm thinking I could sew quilt binding (maybe in 2-3 layers) around the edges of screen "fabric" and then use velcro dots to attach it. It wouldn't "seal" but it would probably do the job for the few times a year we could open it for any length of time. Plus, that would "break away" easily if we really did need to use the egress.
Thanks in advance,
Simon & Zelle

Vicr has done a nice job of fixing this. I half assed mine using a stick to hold open. Then I applied heavy duty Velcro to the lower window frame and to the black window screen to match. So I just Velcro the pull down black screen to the frame. It comes apart too. If the stick falls out I don't think it hurts anything is only about eight inches long.

Well, I'm want more than 8 inches. I can get that much just from propping it open with a pillow.
If we open that window, it's because we want to pull "big" air into the rig. I was hoping we could really open it up to about 80 degrees. But I'd settle for more than what a pillow can do.
How do you get the stick to stay put? We live in Texas, and it's windy. I can just see a big gust knocking it right out.
This got reinforced last night. It's our first trip, and the whole campground lost power for 2+ hours. Luckily for us, we'd had dinner, so we just went for a drive for part of it. We sat outside when we came back. And JUST as we went for a walk, it came back on (an everyone rejoiced!). The rig cooled down very quickly, but if this had been mid-day, I'm not sure we'd have been so lucky. That big-a$$ window could really help during the heat of the day.
I can't see the image @VicR posted, but I *think* I saw someone use one of these glued to the bottom edge of the window?

I love your idea about adding velcro to the solar screen. Why reinvent the wheel, right?

Will the window mechanically open more than 8 inches? It should because it's likely an emergency exit, that's why there is no screen.
I have heard of others fashioning screens for them.

Now that I look at it this is the wrong picture. This was taken before I was all finished. I fabricated some parts from bar stock aluminum and had a screen made by a screen shop. I’ll post Monday when I’m home.

Our Seneca has the built in prop rod and a screen. If you want air flow without opening the window more just turn on a vent fan and you will get all kinds of air flow.

I just watched that video and what he did with the hardware was OK but the screen is a joke! Velcro, really? I’ll post photos of mine with a real screen and I don’t have to remove the screen to open and close mine.

All of these pics (which are now showing to me for some reason) have the little "arm" with the "tab" to prop it open. Our smaller bedroom window has one of those. It also can be opened more if you slide the tab through the slot. A small human could exit that way, I'd guess.
Our larger egress window doesn't have anything around it. It's just glass. That Tito one is good with the little marine arms, but our window is frameless. There is nothing to screw to.
I'm going to keep thinking. I saw one thing that gave me an idea, so if we try that and it works, I'll report back. It's a bit moot for a few months, now that we are already reaching 100 degree afternoons.
Thanks, y'all.

You’re not understanding that this window started with nothing but the red latch. I added the “arm”, associated hardware and the screen. Good luck coming up with a better way.

And I can see the frame around your window in the pictures....giving you something to attach (whatever) to. Our window edge is the edge of the glass. It is frameless.

Yes, I opened it and held it up to 90 degrees or so. I'd like 80, but I'd settle for just about anything bigger than how far open a pillow can hold it.
Like I said, I'm working on an idea.... and will report back if I have any luck.

My window is frameless what you are seeing is black paint on the glass. What is your window lock attached to?

I cut and pasted the name and part # to Amazon and got it from them.
The installation for me was easy. You do have to fabricate some parts to make it all work. I had a screen shop make the screen.

Pop open the egress window
Be careful. I have a 2017 Greyhawk 29 MV and I tried to prop open the egress window. I opened it a bit too far and the window fell out. We could do nothing about getting it back in. My husband is very handy and it just would not go back. We brought it to our dealer and they couldn't get it back in either. $650 later we had a new window installed.
