It's not a hitch, it's a tow bar that folds up to the back of the motorhome. For protection I have a Blue Ox cover that covers the tow bar and keeps it clean and dry. Noticing that other MH owners do the same my interest was in keeping the tow bar secure. I could remove and stow but would rather not.

As for other vehicles, I have barked my shins more than a few times by forgetting the ball hitch was installed.
