receiver hitch lock pin

I've been searching the interweb for a locking pin to secure a Blue Ox tow bar to my Precept. Many of the reviews indicate that rust in the lock is a major flaw and apparently most are made in China.

I'm looking for someone on this forum that has had good luck with a locking hitch pin. If no one has been successful I may just remove the Blue Ox when we are stationary.

Thanks in advance,

Whatever you do, buy one that has a circular key. I bought a name brand hitch lock with a traditional key, but it broke off in the lock with minimal force. My current lock is a Trimax lock and I've had it for about 3 or 4 years with no problems. Once a year I shoot some dry lube into the key hole and on the moving mechanism's and its been flawless.

I have had a Reese Towpower for YEARS that has been great. It has a cover that protects the lock. About every year or two I lube it with Lockease.

Roughly every six months I lube my electric stairs, door lock, hinges, and receiver lock. Never had an issue and towed for over 40 years. I also purchase stainless steel receiver locks.

I expected some routine maintenance to keep things working correctly. Which lock do you have Steve?

x2 on the BOLT! And the bonus is it key matches to your ignition key so you eliminate another key on the keychain.

They all work and nothing is 100% full proof.

I use this one right now, have four vehicles that can tow so I have four keyed the same.

I understood most of that

Nice Truck Steve. I have the XLT SuperCrew Cab. I think you probably have some better options on yours than I do... but anyway, I'll stop hijacking threads

Thanks

Thanks for all the suggestions. I like the Bolt idea but apparently only fits GM keys. I believe the key to long life is regular maintenance to avoid internal rust.

Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving,

Where would I find my Jayco Precept?

The web site would not let me search for Jayco or Ford F53, am I missing something? The ignition key is Ford but could not find anything related to the commercial chassis'.

My answer was to point out that they didn't only offer solutions for GM but pretty much every American made brand. They do offer solutions for Ford keys so if the website doesn't have your particular model listed, I would suggest contacting the company to see if they can help.

Nick,

I did a google search and found that someone mentioned a 2014 Ford F53 motorhome in a review. Here is the link but contacting them to make sure of the right one would be the best bet.

Thanks, I figured I would call tomorrow since they were likely closed when I looked at this tonight. I found 2 local distributors within 5 miles so I'll check them out also, one is an RV dealer.

Rather than keep your hitch on your truck when not in use, you should remove and store it for a few reasons. First, it will look better longer. Second, I'm not sure exactly how the sway control works on this hitch, but keeping it out of the weather and chemicals on the road will reduce the maintenance on mechanical parts. And third, you may injure yourself, or someone else, with that hunk of metal sticking out; and if you've ever walked into one, you will never want to again......
