Replaced Girad On Demand Water Heater with Truma Aqua Go
All tired of fighting with or Girad on demand water heater and decided to go with the Truma Aqua Go on demand water heater made in Germany. Below are some pictures of the install - very straight forward took about 4.5h including a run to Home Depot.
The unit is definitely better built and is super easy to winterize. More details here https://www.truma.com/us/en/water-systems/aquago.php
PS> I have another AquaGo for sale - accidentally ended up with 2

Nice job. How did you locate a unit to self install? I want to upgrade a truma from the basic unit to comfort model but they say they only sell to dealers.

I would love to hear your review of the Truma compared to the Girard. We hate the Girard!! Thanks!

I agree the Girad Tankless water heater is a POS junk I hate it especially when off the grid. Please tell us more about your replacement.

Works perfect
New truma aquago worked perfect. 4 showers per day, dish washing, etc. Truma worked well and as hoped. Even worked with low water pressure.
Definitely worth the upgrade.

Were you on hook ups or dry camping? If using city water, then how do you think the Truma would perform dry camping? My biggest complaint with the Girard is that when you turn water off and then on again it takes long to heat up meaning water is going into the tank wasted.
Thanks!!

Truma & Dry Camping
Morning, we used the Truma both on and off city water and it worked great on both. Actually worked better using the water pump as it had more pressure than the city water.
It did not take very long to get hot water - a little shorter than the Girard. However if you are on an extended dry camp you will definitely waste precious water. Probably best to heat the water another way (pot, sink specific water heater, etc.) or to capture the cold water in a bucket/pale that you use for something else later.

Where to get unit???
Hi sjarr. I realize this is on old thread, but I'd also like to purchase a unit for a self install. Of course my local dealer won't sell me one unless they do the install (as required by Truma). I'd rather do it myself (not so much to save money, but because I basically don't trust anyone else to work on my rig). Would you mind sending me a PM, letting me know how you obtained a unit? I want the comfort plus, but doubt anyone, even a dealer will sell me one of those. I'll settle for a comfort model, though. Thanks in advance!

I am beginning to hate this Girard. Works one day and not the next. We switched camp sites, pressurized the hose and no hot water. We have 3/8 tank of propane, . checked the fuse on the girard and at the fuse box. Flipped the switch pushed the red and green button saw it register 120 degrees but no hot water. Don't have the money for a Truma . Any ideas would help???

I guess I'm one of the fortunate few. Haven't had any problems with the Girard.

Sounds like you have a Gen 3 Girard. There was a recall on the solenoids, have yours been replaced? [ Dunno if this prevents hot water, but I'm taking a guess. ]
Does Girard have a tech support line you can call?
I have a Gen 2 and it's been fine.

We took delivery Dec 16. The dealer didn't winterize it properly and it was leaking from two different places. The dealer replaced it in May so I can only assume it is 3rd generation

I installed the Suburban on demand. When it works it's heats great but on second unit and tired of fighting with it.

Truma as a rule, will not sell to the general public. Something about wanting to make sure it is done properly. OP probably had some "connections" to someone at the factory or a dealership that got him one (or two). If you have issues with your local dealer installing one for you, I would contact Truma directly and see if they can twist some arms.

Truma has a service center in Lakeland Fl. We went there to have an upgrade kit installed on ours. It may be worth the trip for you to have the factory install the water heater.
