Replaced Jeep toad with Honda CR-V, questions?

Because of gas fumes issues with my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited I swapped it for a 2014 Honda CR-V to be my new toad.

The Blue OX tow base on the CR-V is lower than the Jeeps I have towed with my Precept 35S. My Precept is at the dealer finishing up end of warranty repairs so I don't have access to the receiver. Anyone have easy access to get me a dimension from the center line of the receiver to ground?

Anyone towing a CR-V using a drop adapter in the receiver?

CR-V towing hints? Comments?

Thanks in advance.

I'm towing a 2004 CRV. I had to use a drop hitch to raise up the receiver on my MH. I installed a switch for the fuse that needed to be pulled in order to keep the battery from running down. I put the fuse in line with the switch so the circuit was still protected.

How much drop did you need to level up the tow bar please?

It's a 4" drop.

I'm towing a 2008 CRV with a Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain system with my Precept 35s. I do not use a drop down hitch and have no issues at all. Unfortunately I can't give you the receiver dimensions as the MH is in storage and not accessible. The CRV tows beautifully and makes a great toad. Just make sure to follow the recommended transmission procedure. Never had to pull fuse or use a battery tender.

Pin height on the Blue Ox CR-V base is 15.5 inches and I’m thinking the Precept receiver is 18”. The allowable out of level on my tow bar is +/- 3” so that puts me pretty close to the limits of the tow bar.

I’d probably feel comfortable with a 2 inch drop if my thinking is correct.

When I wired the 6 pin plug on the front of the crv I added a 12v fused lead direct to the battery so I can charge the crv without pulling a fuse. I may still add a blocking diode just in case I forget to pull the 6 pin plug before starting the crv.

Taking our first road trip in the crv today for a long weekend in Columbus, oh.

Nick, we have the exact set up as you and use a 6" drop which puts the tow bar parallel with the ground. It does however scrape when crossing a deep swale or steep driveway approach (which is pretty rare). This next year we will be going with a 4" drop and see how that does.

Vicr, that’s good information. I’ll look for a 4” drop adapter, still have a couple of months before we leave for FL.

I have a 10” drop adapter that came with my tow bar, that’s a pretty severe drop, must hav been used on a Prevost or something.

Thanks for your help buddy.

CRV owners/users - Firewall opening for wire pass through?

Installed my breakaway switch today and now looking for a place in the firewall to pass the connector into the passenger compartment.

Anybody been there done that?
