Slide out use on overnight stays

My bed is in the rear slideout on my melbourne 25k, when traveling out west I will need to stop and sleep where it is acceptable to slide out the rear slide. Does anyone know where you should and shouldn't extend it/
Thanks, Mark

I would think that anywhere you have the room to extend it should be fine.

We usually do not use the slide out in less we are at a camp ground, however while at the new rest stop just of fort Stockton tx on I 10, a few minuets after arriving, (they have dedicated RV area on the back side) a worker knocked on the door to let use know that it was OK to use our slide out, apparently txdot wanted to let rv's know that the slid outs were ok.

I usually put them out if I don’t feel their going to be in the way or a nuisance to others.

I would not worry to much about a rear slide out. A side slide out on the other hand, I would worry a bit about others pulling up next to you.

I extend my side / slide out when overnighting in Walmart and such. I just make sure I am parked in a way that it doesn't interfere at all with store operations...

I would use caution...like in truck stops and rest areas. Parking lots like Walmart maybe if against a curb but otherwise I wouldn't for safety reasons.

Unless there was a place next to a curb and your slide would go out in the grass area not back in the direction of where vehicles could hit it.

So I guess you could say I vote mostly no unless your in a campground.

+1

That was one of the qualifications for a floorplan for us from the very beginning when we were searching for a travel trailer. The unit had to be 100% functional with all slides IN. We wanted this specifically because we knew we would be stopping for quick overnights on long journeys and I didn't want to have to deploy slides to go to the bathroom on the road or to catch some sleep over night.

We have been known to deploy the dinette slide in our TT when we would stop for a meal. That's because with the slide in, there was no support under the slide floor. I would always make a specific effort to park somewhere the slide would not impede traffic or risk getting hit by another vehicle. If we were overnighting like in a parking lot or rest stop, all slides were in. I would deploy the slide for a little bit in the morning so we could eat breakfast, then bring it back in and get on the road.

With the Motorhome, the slide is intended to be occupied in transit, so it can support us. Now, no slides are deployed unless we are in a campground.

When we would stop for a quick overnight stop it was usually at Walmart. We would part perpendicular to the parking spaces and usually parked in the middle of 3 spaces. We had plenty of room to put our rear slide out. Although we rarely used truck stops or rest stops (too noisy and bright for us), when we did, we would not put any slide out. Usually the parking is tight and I didn't trust the slide wouldn't get hit by someone coming in or going out.

The reason we picked the Melbourne 24M was the Murphy bed and full use with the slide in. We can park anywhere we fit with no obstructions to anyone.
