Weight limit for outside/basement storage areas?

We have a 2020 Precept 31UL. I’m wondering what the weight limit is for the outside storage areas? I’ve searched the user manual with no luck.

Can't recall where i saw this on this forum in the past, but I believe someone said 50lbs... There's nothing structural in the build of the bays, simply rotomolded plastic. I would think if you stay in that range you should be fine. You will notice that once you put some stuff in them, they will begin to sag in the middle. Some folks have reinforced them with wood, etc...

This is a 5 year old discussion here and on the Facebook Precept/Alante forum. There is no weight limit and to evenly distribute weight in the compartments to alleviate sagging 3/4" wrapped with non-skid shelving material is what I used.

I remember reading the weight limit is 200 pounds for each compartment. As stated above, you need something to keep them from sagging if you put much weight (>50#) in one.

Looks like I didn't type in "plywood" after 3/4". I have done this in all my compartments making them all flat and nothing slides around.

Seneca’s have some similar compartments and I bolt 1.5x1.5” angle aluminum along the bottom with large fender washers on the inside. This makes them very rigid and not sag in the middle.

Guys, thanks for the ideas and pics. I’m going to use one or both of your ideas!

Where did you got the grippy shelf liner. Deep enough to cover the hole board. I need 22 inches deep .
Thank you

That’s a pretty interesting take on fixing that issue. I like it !

@Rustynuts, how did you decide on 1.5”? Wondering if 1”x 1” would work as well while saving weight.

Well, it’s what I had laying around the shop. It all depends on the compartment size and what you want to put in it, I have used 1” but the compartment was only 1” wide.

For the one in the picture I posted, it was almost 8’ of material. 8’ of 1.5”x.125 weighs is 3.44 lbs and 8’ of 1”x.125 weights 2.16 lbs......1.28 lbs difference, not enough to worry about for the strength you gain.
