What did you invest in your tow package?

Went to General RV that would charge $5,000 for tow plate for my 16 Cherokee, with Blue Ox Avail IV tow bar, kit for tow bar, Stay in place braking system and labor.

RV One wasn't interested in doing it.

Camping World using Brake Buddy Stealth or Stay in place (they recommend the Stealth), All Terrain Falcon tow bar, kit and labor for $4,330.79.

Lastly, Lazydays with Avail,Stay in place, kit, plate, labor for $5,700.

What do you use, are you happy with it and what did you invest?

Bought used and did work myself

The only major thing I bought new was the Wrangler base plate, about $450. Bought a used Blue Ox 5000lb tow bar with safety cables and 7 pin to 6 pin cable, $300. Bought the wiring kit from Etrailer, $85. I bought the RVI2 brake kit used for $400 with the remote readout. Installed everything myself (with help on the base plate). After my first tow I added a battery charging circuit to keep the wrangler battery charged as I didn't want to get into pulling fuses. If you are both mechanically and electrically inclined you can do the work, if not then shop around. My dealer wanted $3500 to set up the Wrangler for towing with him choosing the components. I figure I saved somewhere north of $2000 that will be used to buy gas plus I chose my components.

Ditto. NickM bought a used add a brake less than $200. Had specialist. Install blue ox base plate and do wiring. Bought new 6500 lbs blueox tow bar. All in for less than $2500. I now tow my Trailhawk without worries.

I did my homework. Decided what I wanted up front, then set about finding what I wanted in good used shape. Got about $700 in the setup, and I did all the work. Traveled a bit to find my Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain towbar and Roadmaster EvenBrake aux braking system. I installed the whole mess, wired the Jeep, and set up the rock guard to work with the Jeep custom bumper. I knew I needed a custom front bumper for the winch anyway, so I just had it built to fit the towbar perfectly. No adapter hanging down to catch on rocks while four wheeling. Also set up a charging line for the Jeep battery so it never runs down trying to keep the braking system operating. Took about the equivalent of two full days to get it operating, but I did it right. All wired connections are soldered and double insulated, and all power lines are fused and properly protected and routed.

Just got through this, all in I spent $2200 doing the work myself. Blue OX tow bar, base plate, wiring harness, and rvibrake3. My tow vehicle is a JK Wrangler.

The tow plate install was easy. Pop the bumper off, drill a couple of holes, and bolt it together. The wiring harness was ridiculously simple. Route it underneath, drill a hole into one of the taillight compartments, and bobs your uncle.

I did the whole thing in 4 hours. I rented lift space at a local DIY shop ($30/hour), which made it REALLY simple.

I'm at $2,500.(in round figures) using Blue Ox Baseplate with the Avail tow bar, SMI Stay in Play Duo, Hopkins tail light wiring, a 7 to 6 pin Blue Ox electric cable and a Roadmaster Brake Light Rely.

I did the install myself, I have about 18 hours over three nights. A lot of thinking time in that 18 hours

Thanks SteveL

Just in case I forgot, many thanks to SteveL for coaching me through the Wrangler installation, especially the light wiring. You and utube sure made it much easier for me.

Lots of videos on utube for installing tow systems.
