Which way?, St Louis to Middlebury? Suggestions?

Anyone care to chime in as to which route to take from St Louis to Middlebury? Either 55 toward Chicago and then across East?, or 70 to Indianapolis snd North from there?

I've done 55 more than I care to remember (ISU grad), and the Chgo Skyway sucks (let alone the IN Tollway!). But I have no idea what 70 and 69 would be like? I'm thinking the Indiana route tomorrow might be good for a change, (although the scenery all looks about the same LOL)

Anyone?

I've driven I70 between St Louis and Indy so many times, including several times the past 6 months. It's not too bad except some of the concrete on the overpasses. Usually the left lane is a smoother ride for our F53 chassis. Going around 465 to US31 is good but stay out of the right lane. US31 is decent too. The big bonus is this route doesn't have any tolls and you don't have to deal with Chicagoland traffic!

If time and mileage are similar, I would take the southern route through Indiana. I-55 has some construction over the Des Plaines River just before you hit I-80 which can back up a lot. Also, Chicago traffic is notoriously unperdictable. I should know, I live in metro-Chicago and have to tow through it anytime I want to go anywhere that isn't Wisconsin. Traffic might quickly add an hour or two to your drive and I-80 though that part of south-Chicagoland and NW Indiana is really busy. I think you will have much less stress taking the I-70 and U.S. 31 route.

Yes the Indiana way was definetly the way to go! Much smoother, more interesting, paced an excellent trucker who knew how to treat the road like a symphony and flow-baby-flow. For the entire length of I70 we stuck together (or rather I stuck to drafting him LOL), and we moved smooth as could be. So much better than 55 and the Skyway crap.
