Winter Camping

We are new Jayco Precept 31UL owners in East Tennessee. Thinking about camping in Fort Meyers Fla end of December. Do I have to winterize camper and then unwinterize it before we travel south?

It all depends on "Mother Nature" and how cold East TN gets before you leave. If you don't winterize and get a hard freeze in November or December you'll have problems.

I live in Memphis. My rule has been to winterize if I put it in storage in late Fall, even if for a short time. No fun scrambling to get it done before a cold snap comes through when it likely won't be convenient to do. Not that hard to do and beats watching the weather to be sure. You might be OK and no freezing temps, or you might not and be out there late one day trying to get it done in time.

And this topic gets brought up a lot.

I'm of the mind "If any doubt - winterize." $10 bucks of antifreeze beats the repair costs of frozen plumbing 100 to 1.

Once you learn how to do it, it’s 2nd nature and will prevent lots of worry down the road!

Ditto what the rest said to be safe. Could wait to de-winterize when halfway south, we got lucky and did before leaving as it was mild.

Bigger headache is when coming back. Try to winterize before coming back to TN.

We did FL trip last year (from Ohio) and bit chilly even in Forsyth KOA North Georgia on Dec 30th. Maybe stay in hotel, just find a good place to park RV. Last time we do that, unless we go to snowbird in retirement. Come on Jan 2028!!!
