174BH storage

Is there anyone who replaced the narrow storage door with a bigger one that is taller?

I like many try to the pass through entry hatch to put things in or take them out, but the little door precludes some things from going in. It’s a good length but the bottom to the top is really narrow.

By looking at the inside wall it seems the opening could be enlarged and just replace the hatch.

Thanks

It sounds like you are referring to the outside storage that is under the bed.
From inside, the bed and wood lifts up and you get access to that large storage area and you can put large items in that way. I haven't seen anyone make that door bigger and it seems like a lot of work.

I was going to do that on our Forrest River. The put a nice size door on the passenger side and a real small one on the driver side. I even bought the same door as the passenger side. Then we traded the FR for our Jayco. Both of the Jayco doors are smaller than the larger one on the FR and you can’t fit folding chair in it. Nice work Jayco. The new door I have is too big for the way the Jayco is laid out. Need a new black door for a deal?
I did contact FR to get details on the construction of the wall in that area but got no help. Looked at some plant tour videos and did get some views of that area during construction.

You might try talking to this guy, he added an outside shower. More or less the same concept.

If I were doing this, First I would request a copy of my trailer framing plan from Jayco. Then I'd go to a Jayco lot, find a trailer with the door size you want, and ask service to order you the parts for it.

A bit of time with a saw, soem careful re-inforcement of the opening, probably adding a 2x2 frame around the new opening, and a bit of time with dicor.

Number of people have added windows and larger passage doors on various campers. So it might be doable.

Contact Jayco with your vin number and ask for the wall construction diagram. This will be required to understand how the wall is built and what your limitations might be.

Pending on how old your rig is, if it is still in warranty they may resist providing the schematics. I asked and had no issues, others had a hard time. So do not give them to much info if your still in warranty, or have a good story like needing to add handicap accessibility for your DW or kid.
