23b Hanging Closet Long Rod

23b Hanging Closet Long Rod

I didn't search to see if this has been posted already.

Anytime we camp we use soft bags for ease of stowage. The grandkids use a backpack, as do we on shorter vacations. We rarely need hanging clothes space in our Kiwi 23b. For a while now we have hung the backpacks from the OEM short rods in the hall closet using large carabiner hooks. That keeps the bags high which allows use of the lower storage area. "S" hooks or recycled bungee hooks lashed to the rod are another possibility.

It occurred to me that a long rod would give better use of the space. I had some extendable rods which were removed from other closets. To allow the rod to be inserted and bridge above the existing OEM rods I cut the top of the flange. In hindsight I could have removed the OEM rods to install the long rod and not cut the flange. The long rod is supported by the OEM rods so one screw or no screw in the flange is enough anyway.

I placed the long rod about 4" out from the back wall to accommodate the backpacks. A piece of EMT conduit or wooden dowel would also work fine by using cable ties to the OEM rods as are shown in the pictures. End screws are not necessary. The installation of the long rod doesn't preclude the use of the short rod(s) for hanging.

Some pictures to help explain. vic

Great idea... The D shaped snap-hooks have all kinds of uses... We use them here in our OFF-ROAD Camper for alot of things as well...

Thanks for the post...
