Hope this works, since this is my first attempt at inserting images.
Completed this Mod shortly after buying our 2011 Jay Flight G2 32BHDS, griping that the Jayco OEM television in the entertainment center was a wimpy 21in. Great thing about the rotating TV/mirror entertainment center, new for 2011, is that it has a separate carpentry box for the TV/mirror that you can slide out after removing 4 wood screws. Remaining space/hole accommodates a 32” LCD, and my DW loves big TVs more than I do.
Popped the TV off its mounting bracket. Removed the 4 wood screws and slid out the TV/mirror swivel cabinet. The problem with the entertainment centers has been their thin wood paneling and widely spaced skinny framing materials, limiting one’s ability to modify and attach bigger electronics. Used the pneumatic brad gun to attach some ½” x ¾” wood framing strips in the bottom of the open hole, then nailed in a cut to fit piece of 3/8” birch select plywood (creating a floor to the opening). Attached some ½” x ¾” wood framing strips horizontally along the side gaps, followed by the attachment of horizontal scraps of plywood for structural rigidity within the flimsy paneling walls (looks like three mini 9” shelves in the pictures). Then attached cut to fit pieces of 3/8” birch select plywood to create side walls for the opening (brad nailing into the horizontal “shelves”). Finished framing by attaching horizontal ½” x ¾” framing strips in the top of the entertainment center opening, followed by brad nailing of 3/8” birch select plywood. Rock solid fully-walled, wood-framed box! I then attached quarter-round molding 360 degrees around the entire open (in the middle), slid in a cut to fit vertical piece of ½” select oak plywood, and then repeated the quarter-round molding attachment on the opposite side of the entertainment center to sandwich-in this piece of vertical ¾” plywood.
Attached a flat-screen swivel-scissor TV mount into the living room side of the ¾” plywood (32” LCD) and then recycled the OEM TV mount on the bedroom side of the entertainment center (26” LCD). I attached a pair of 1” canvass straps with spring-loaded buckles behind the 32” TV (pan-head screws with flat washers, thru the canvas strap and into the ¾” plywood), so that I can loop them vertically around the TV and cinch down tightly for the road.
And whatever happened to the wimpy 21” LCD TV: the kids got it in the bunkroom. :hihi:
Second post/reply to follow with more Pics. Hope this works.
