3D Printing

So what's the intersection between the RV community and the 3D Printing community? Has anyone got any useful prints to share?

I'm thinking of exploring the air handler mods I've seen and trying to 3D print some parts for them, (like that expensive styrofoam insert thing). What else have you found useful?

Not RV related but I had a floor drain cover 3D printed for the laundry room. Turned out great.

Have yet to find something for the FW that I can have printed.

I have designed and printed many things for our Seneca. I have done the AC flow mods, screen door latch to open the screen door without having to slide open the panel, extended vent knob so my wife can reach it, fillers for the power cord and water hose that 2 pieces click together around the cord or hose with magnets and then a press fit into the hole, secondary fuel filter wrench for the 6.7 Cummins, paper towel holder for a pullout in one of the cargo bays and the little buttons that hold the furnace thermostat to the wall that kept breaking the factory plastic ones. Currently working on a inverter/charger/solar install and designed up some screw down clips to hold two 4/0 cables in place. So nice to have an idea or need a part and being able to design and make it. A lot of my files are on Thingiverse. https://www.thingiverse.com/browningm37/designs

My tinkercad skills are awful. But when a small - but essential - shower door bracket broke, I made a reasonable approximation and 3D printed it up.

It worked, but didn't last as long as I had hoped.
It's a learning experience so I may try a different material (ie. ABS) or thicken up the walls...

Wow, some great ideas! I like the AC mods, though I was sincerely impressed with the quality of my AC install in my 2021 242BHS when I pulled it open. I've seen all the horror stories online, but mine was neat and tidy and very well built. The vent mod is nice ynpmoose, and rustynuts you're my type of designer, very cool stuff.

So far I've just made a mounting bracket for a propane shutoff valve for my stove. I've got a little one who will try and gas us every night for sure, and my stove doesn't seem amenable to regular child lock things for the knobs. So I'm going to put a recessed fireplace valve behind the stove, and needed a quick mounting bracket. (Amazon link to fireplace valve)

The first part off of our new 3D printer at work was the roof vent extension handle. The file was downloaded from Thingiverse. Also printed the screen door opener (standard version). That one required some adjustments to work properly as the latch striker is too long and it required a collar to work properly. Should have used the Seneca version but I had already drilled out the plastic panel.

Yeah when I found the original on Thingiverse it wasnt close to reaching the lever and I make up the one for the Seneca, it took a couple trys to get it right but worth the time.

I have a Qidi X-Plus, they are a great all in one that you can have up and running 10 minutes out of the box. It has printed flawlessly.

Finishing up my new inverter/solar install I designed several clips to hold down 4/0 cables and one that holds three 4/0 and one 6ga cable, they worked great. Very handy to make something that is not available to even buy.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I am very intrigued by the 3D Printer concept and am thinking of jumping in with something called an Ender 3 Pro. Seems very affordable and a decent entry level printer. You do have to assemble it but I am not worried about that part. Anybody have any experience with this printer?

I have been considering a 3d printer for a while now, the creality ender 3 pro certainly has an attractive price. ~CA

The Ender 3 pro is a fantastic starter printer, and definitely best in class at its price point.

Be aware that there is a V2 version (same website), only ~$40 more and from the youtube reviews it is worth the extra $40. That is the one I think I may purchase.

Yes indeedy. I had a major problem with the board controlling the furnace in my 2016 Precept 31UL. The 1st time I tried to use the furnace it wouldn't come on and I discovered that the board was all wet and the connections were corroded and broke off. So I ordered a new one and replaced it after modifying the fridge hose to drip outside the RV. A few months later, went camping, no heat and the board was again corroded. In only a few months, the tangs had broken off due to corrosion!

Doing some research I found a guy talking about Atwood sending him a free retro kit. But when I called them they refused to send or even sell me one...so I decided the hell with them, I'll make my own and it has worked flawlessly.

You can see the file and a little more backstory at: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4235070
