Accumulator addition for fresh water pump

Added the Shurflo accumulator to my water system to eliminate hammering at low flow and quiet down the pump overall when the faucet is on full. Worked perfect. I was real limited on space, even after re-routing the line in to the pump and moving the pump itself, so I had to mount the tank vertically and add the flex line. Before the mod the pex lines at the elbows touched the cabinet on each end which I'm sure contributed to the noise, now they're not. Added bonus, I now know how those push-connect pex fittings work.

Thank you. It's the Shurflo 182-200 pre-pressurized accumulator tank. I got it off Amazon for $35.95

My Designer has a place under the sink for an inline water filter. I never use that location for a filter since I have a "whole home" filter that is inline with the water coming in from the pedestal outside. But I did use this inline water filter location to install an accumulator. Works well and was just "screw it on" since the fittings were already there for the inline filter.

Nice! I've been considering that, too.

As a side note, the pump on my Outback was REALLY noisy. I rerouted lines so they wouldn't touch anything. I applied Great Stuff foam insulation to the holes where the water lines went through the floor and a bulhead. But the thing that helped the most was remounting the pump with a cheap, foam rubber mouse pad between the pump and the wall it was mounted to. That got rid of 75% of the noise!

I was not happy with the capacity and price of the Shurflo so I installed a small 2gal pressure tank from Simer (available at Home Depot or Lowes). Works fine and I have enough capacity (~1-1.25gal) to run the faucets for quite a while before the pump kicks in. It is a much heavier duty unit and you can easily replace the diaphragm later on.

Just make sure you set the pressure properly and check it every couple of months!

I agree and if one has the room, that is certainly the way to go. I don't think the 2 gallon pressure tanks are much more expensive.

I picked up a 2 gal on Amazon last summer and installed it up under the kitchen sink. Very happy with it.
