Added a Ventilation Fan to the Lower Bunk

Since our lower bunk has no a/c or heating ducts, it can get stuffy for our granddaughter. So I decided to add a speed controlled fan to ventilate the lower bunk area with air from the living room of our Eagle HT 26.5BHS.

Here is the finished install:

The components included a 70 mm computer fan and a 12V dc speed controller:

The computer brushless ball bearing 12V dc fan I already had is similar to this one: https://www.amazon.ca/uxcell[emoji24...sr=1-6-catcorr

The fan is mounted in a ABS cap I modified and then attached to the aluminum tube.

The speed controller was purchased on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07SQQTK6M/...709270_TE_item

I already had a white vent. The black was also purchased on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0095TEPI0/...709270_TE_item

I used a 4 1/4" diameter hole saw for cutting the hole for the "fan tube":

I will need to wait until next season to give it a real world test since the FW is going into winter storage next week.

Great mod! I will never understand why they don't put ventilation in the lower bunks. I have the same issue with my 28BHBE. Where did you pull 12v power from?

I pulled power from the lower bunk's light. While at it, I added a pancake LED light to the storage area under the bunk.

Great minds think alike I guess!! Nice work!!

I was going to do the exact same mod to my 28BHBE! We always just used clip-on fans there, but had we kept that trailer, this mod is something I was going to do.

I could have pulled power from 12V out of the "basement" storage under that bunk, or there is a 110V outlet in that little wall on my unit as well.

I like that you made it speed-controlled, that's not something I probably would've thought of...

I use a 12v USB clamp on fan on our 27BHS lower bunk. I installed a double 12v usb outlet on the top bunk for my grandson and run the cord from there. I will install another usb outlet on the bottom bunk now that we have a granddaughter who camps with up also. I just tap into the 12v light wiring.

This forum gets me in trouble. Not that I already don't have a laundry list of things I would like to do to improve our 28bhbe I find new ideas all the time on here! Great upgrade. I also would like to add some sort of ventilation for the bunks.

EOW, "next season" is here [emoji16]. Have you had a chance to check there effectiveness of the fan? Awesome idea and clean install. Thinking of doing something similar for my 264BH if it worked well.
Thanks!

Works great and was worth the effort.

This is great! Commenting here so I can find this later after our upcoming trip. For now, I attached a dryer vent wall flange to the upper bunk ac vent and then used the dryer vent hose to bring the cool air down to the lower bunk. I like this idea much better though. I think I’m going to have to buy myself a good stapler for the interior paneling so I can run the wiring more easily!

I just put a fan in our lower bunk. Ran the wiring under the curtain holder. Drilled a small hole in wall straight above lower bunk light and tied the electrical into the lights wiring. Fan moves decent air but would like to get dedicated ac vent to the bunks or cut out some of the ladder wall for better airflow.

I 3D-printed a housing to direct AC air into the upper bunk:

This looks brilliant! How noisy is the fan at full speed -- and what speed do you tend to run it at?

Not noisy at all. We generally run the fan at 40 or less on the controller since it does not take much air movement to get the area to the same temperature as the rest of the FW. At 40, you can barely hear the fan.
