Adding a hitch recevier to TT

I have a 2007 Jay feather 29X with the molded rear bumper. I am thinking of adding a 2 inch receiver on the rear of the frame to allow for a bike rack or storage tray. Has anyone added a receiver to their TT? If so, what type of receiver did you use and how big of a job was it? I have a friend who is pretty good with fabrication and he has agreed to help, but I really don't want this to be the small project that gets out of hand. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Dont use the bumper it is far too weak.. it might last for a year or two but eventually it will crack under the pressure.. ask me how I know.. Now if your friend is a welder and good at fabrication have him make one that is similar to what they put under vehicles only larger.. and make sure the cross tube is big enough to handle the strain for the distance..

The tube must be braced to the frame. I mounted mine on the bumper then added bracing out to the frame. Even a light load bouncing around back there will crack the welds on the bumper.

As mentioned, go to the frame not the bumper. If you are planning on mounting a carry rack you really need two hitch points to help eliminate vibration and flexing.
