The flashlight method is what I use as I always carry a Streamlight microstream in my pocket, I just fine it annoying.

Mine is located on the side of the entertainment center and it sort of seems that it shadows itself with the light from the ceiling mounted lights.
It's one of those things that will bug me but in the end I probably won't do anything about it. It's like a new refrigerator that we bought that didn't have a light in the freezer. 6 years later, it still bothers me every time I open the freezer
