Another post about Norcold Refrigerator

Been reading all the posts about the 4 door Norcold not cooling down enough. Mine gets the freezer down to 3 degrees and inside to 34 which is fine but I have to set it to 9 which is the max. I replaced one inop fan and made sure the diverter at the top is in place. I’ve been seeing some models of RV’s with an extra wide vent at the bottom. The regular vent exposes all the controls and necessary stuff to work on the unit. To the left of the vent is a space that’s 14 inches deep the whole length of the opening that doesn’t have venting from the bottom. This extra wide vent would let more cooling air rise from the bottom to the top which on this side has lots of cooling fins. Just wondering if they install this extra wide vent to add the cooling. I noticed this extra wide vent on my BIL Forest River. I’ve ordered an inline 12 volt fan ( much like a bilge blower on a boat) to install in this area to blow straight up into the fins above to see if it makes a difference.
Bottom pic is mine.

Just remember you want the fan at the top and not blowing across the lower part of the boiler since that actually reduces the cooling.

Yes. My plan is to install it up as far as I can reach. If I can, will put a short piece of flexible duct to the bottom vent somehow. This area is 14x5 inches the whole length with about 12 inches of cooling fins at the top not getting direct airflow across the fins.

Norcold 2118

I would think the extra wide vent is needed for the larger RV fridge units, my pinnacle has them and they still seem inadequate.
As usual Grumpy gives good advice, you want that hot air out at the top.
The fan I installed in the upper vent is a 120 mm Thermaltake, quiet, low amp draw.

My previous motorhome had the single door fridge and this same vent. The vent for the single door fridge covers the whole width of the fridge. This vent leaves 14” on the left side and 12” of cooling fins at the top without direct airflow. The 4 door fridge in my Jayco is obvious wider. The point I’m trying to make is the area on the left side of the vent has no air coming in from the bottom other than the vent and no where to exit from the top other than the vent which doesn’t cover the width of the cooling fins at the top. Can you see the 12” of cooling fins in the picture that are behind the wall? Yes Grumpy has good advice but I haven’t heard of anyone addressing this area and feel it could be attributed to some of the cooling issues otherwise manufacturers would not be installing the wider vents in the 4 door fridges.
