Back up lights

Has anyone installed back up lights on their trailer?

I have (6) soft LED lights which I plan on installing, before and after the wheels and two on underside of rear bumper area, on my 28BHBE but I would like to wire them into the TV reverse lights. Is there a wire on the trailer harness I could tap onto to turn the reverse lights on when the TV is in reverse ?
Thx
Eric

I've been thinking of doing this myself. While having it wired to your backup lights on your vehicle, most vehicles don't have it wired that way so you'd have to mod that along with running wires from the back of the trailer forward.

A simpler option but not as convenient if you find yourself backing into tight spots in the dark frequently is to simply wire a few lights onto a switch on the trailer. Another benefit to this option is you can use the lights independently if you needed to light up the area for other reasons.

My plan when I get the time is to mount aflood light or two off the ladder up high with a switch running off the battery in the trailer. I don't need them as back up lights often so won't mind having to get out to flip the switch but I'll also be aabl to light up the area for other reasons if needed.

I don't think the wire harness has any provision for backup lights. You would have to run a wire to your TV taillights and tap into the reverse light wire to power the lights on the back of the trailer.

Yes the trailer wire has provision for reverse lights... Find the end and it's the yellow wire.

Here is a thread on it.. It's for a NorthPoint, but get out of it what you can.

I did this about 2yrs ago and posted info last year. I used LED strip lights under the 4 corners and wired to the hitch light and to the vehicle reverse light. Hence you can both manually turn on lights or they come on automatically when you backup. You need to use some Diodes to isolate the two power sources which I posted the info. Try this link - or do a search for user RobertCowdery in the Mods area. Without the diodes you would turn on the vehicle backup lights when you used the switch on the trailer - if they were connected. Good luck

These are the lights that I purchased 8 pkgs of for Camper and TV. I do like the idea of having "ground" lighting when not hooked up to the TV but the convienence of reverse lights without getting out and flipping a switch is nice as well...... I wonder if I installed a relay I could have the best of both worlds?

The 7 pole plug cable to the junction box has the reverse light wire in the junction box (yellow). You have to run a wire to the back to hookup the reverse lights.

As mentioned earlier the 7-pin plug on your TT does have provisions for reverse lights. If you find where the wire harness comes into the TT and connects with the TT wiring it'll be the yellow wire. You'll need to extend this wire to the rear of the trailer and use the trailer frame as the ground. If your TV has a factory installed 7-pin plug it will most likely provide power to the yellow wire when you put it in reverse. If your 7-pin connector was added aftermarket there's no gaurantee it was wired to work with the reverse lights, you'll need to verify with a meter or test light to know for sure. This was the first mod I did to our trailer and I love it, I used these lights - Robot Check

I wonder why the RV manufacturers don't install back up lights on their units?
