Caliper placement...

I purchased a disc brake conversion kit for my Northpoint. In reading the destruction manual, it says that the mounting of the calipers can be either at the 2 o'clock position or the 10 o'clock position. The calipers must be mounted on the same, front or rear, side of the axle. Example; you dont want a caliper mounted on the rear side of the axle on the left side of the trailer and on the front side of the same axle on the right side. I cant imagine the havoc that would have on the axle and trailer.

So heres my question, what combination of caliper mounting will give you the best braking power?
Options: front side on both axles? Rear side on both axles? Front side on front axle and rear side on rear axle? Rear side on front axle and front side of rear axle?

On a trailer, it doesn't matter (performance wise) on which position you mount them. In a nutshell, mount them so as to make installation/bleeding/maintenance the easiest for you.

The only reason you see them in different positions on vehicles is where the outer tie rod pivots fall. If the steering tie rod ends mount in front of the axle centerline, the calipers will be towards the back of the rotors. If there are tie rod mounts behind the axle centerline, just the reverse. Rear calipers can be installed any which way.

Performance cars, like Lamborghinis are a whole different engineering story. I won't bore you with any more details.

Mount the left side at 2:00 and the right side at 10:00. That's pretty typical.

So, mount them on the back sides of both axles?

Yes, that's the common position.

Like JFlightRisk said, the easiest and being on the back of both axles will probably be the easiest for the plan the way the the hardline will run.
