Carpet replacement on slides

Hello, Has anyone replaced the carpet on their slides with something else? The carpet in my 334 is the worst quality imaginable and don't know how difficult it will be to replace it with carpet but would rather replace it with hardwood or laminate.

Thanks!

Yea, I have the same dilemma. Unfortunately, you cannot replace that carpet with laminate or hardwood cuz it would not cover the "bar" located at the edge of the slide out (at least that's how it is on mine). My plan is to use the existing carpet as a template and replace it with a commercial grade carpet and have the edges bound.

I was fearing that was the case. I have carpet in my rear bunkhouse that is worn as well. Once uncovered its demo time! Thanks for the reply and advice!

You can replace it with laminate or wood. My brother had his done and it looks great. Not sure how he found someone to do it ? A Google search will probably turn up someone in your area.

Would it be possible to post a picture? I'd be interested to see how he treated the front edge.

I will see if I can get a picture. If you do a Google search you will find page after page and videos from campers to motor homes .

What I have is a piece of hard nylon that is about 1" high that the slide runs over. When the slide is fully extended that nylon piece would be exposed if it were not for the carpet that covers it. If I took the carpet up and replaced the slide out floor with wood/laminate, that piece would be exposed and the wood/laminate floor in the main part of the RV cannot cover that piece otherwise the slide would not operate. Therefore, the slide out flooring material would need to extend (or hang over) about 4" past the edge of the slide in order to cover that nylon piece. So, I'm guessing we're talking apples and oranges because it's not a simple solution, at least not in my simple mind

I would think it would have to extend out and be flexible which I cant see with laminate or wood but maybe with some flexible material you could fasten the extension to it might work

If it were me I would replace it with a very good grade of carpet. #1, you only have to buy around4-5 yards max ( depending on slide sizes)#2, it's a very easy install and it covers those runners for the slide. The old carpet is your templet so the hard part is already done. The added benefit is that carpet is a good sound deadener and it feels warmer with bare feet.
