The gas shocks have a stroke limitation, stay within it and they do their job. Also reverse has an average effect.

For closing the storage pass under the bed is very simple by stapling bubble foil or bubble thermo foil, that way you can leave the hinge of the bed platform in place.
Then you don't kink your mattress either.

I just used the ones already installed. I understand they are 100# models.

Didn't think about mounting them much. Obviously they were extended when I remounted them. As long as there was enough distance to mount them, I didn't see any problem. Now once I mounted them, I was beginning to think they were too strong. It was darn near impossible to open or close the lid. However, that problem was solved after putting the 10" memory foam mattress on the platform.

I never though about re-enforcing the front of the bed. Not as much weight up there, and I haven't read of many problems with other Jay Flights and the front of the bed collapsing. When I put in the cross piece to separate the pass through storage and the under bed storage, I though it helped a lot in adding support.

I agree, and did the same mod.

It made a huge difference in providing additional support for the existing three 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" x 6ft supports attached to the plywood bed platform where it counts..., where the most weight is concentrated.

That's what I decided to do with my 24RBS.

Post #26 here: https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f...s-51005-2.html

I added a 3" memory foam topper on my mattress but left the bed platform hinged at the front of the bed...., elected to keep the mattress & memory foam topper flat when raising the bed.

Nice work. We just finished our mod. Photos are in my album. I did not want close off the bottom storage yet as we have not had our 212 out yet and I don't yet know how we will supply it.
