Electric Tongue Jack

Here is a pic of the Husky Electric Tongue Jack we put on our TT... by far the best investment I have made for the TT so far. Hitching and unhitching in the Texas heat... no problem! Also included a shot of our light timer and awning lights. The oldest boy (25) and the baby (14) are in the last photo.

It took one time out to decide I needed an electric jack. Man how do those truck drivers do that manually everyday?

One of the best mods one can make on a TT is the electric tongue jack.
I installed one a year after we purchased our TT. I am not sure why I waited so long, but sure happy I finally made the purchase.

One of the things that is keeping us from adding the electric tongue jack is the additional weight. Maybe someone 'in the know' can help us out with this. With our tt, the tongue weight loaded (two batteries, full tanks, lightweight type stuff in the front storage bin) weighs in at just over 1000lbs. Our WDH is rated at 1300lbs. When fully hooked up to our F150, the WDH seems to just barely do the job (almost 1 1/4 inch between no hook-up and fully hooked with WDH - front of tv raised that is).

Anyone know how this will affect us? I guess we could just get the new jack, try it out, and if the added weight turns out to not work well w/WDH, we could always return it....

That's a heavy hitch-- but I guess with a front kitchen you'd have to expect that. Anyways, my Barker VIP 3000 lbs jack only weighs 23lbs.

Really?! 23lbs isn't much. Neither of us checked the weight of the jack but assumed that it was much heavier. The kitchen is the second room back; the front of tt is the queen bedroom on this model

I have the Ultra Fab 3502 model and it weighs in at 22 pounds. Well worth every penny spent on an electric tongue jack. Plus you can take it off and put it on the next TT you buy!!!

Don and I are totally looking at each other dumb-founded. And we didn't research this LOL *feeling silly right now* We will seriously consider buying an elec jack now that we know it doesn't weigh as much as we thought....

I just installed a Barker VIP 3500 on my Jayco Jay Feather 24T. Perfect match. No issues. All clearences were met and the power and travel time is fantastic.

I`ve got the Barker 3000 which I took off my previous TT and it does a good job even on my heavy tongue weight TT. It makes setting/releasing the tension on the WD hitch a breeze, as well as just general jacking.

The only added weight with a power jack is a couple short wires and the small electric motor. You are only looking at the difference between the hand crank jack and the good one.

I've been eyeing this one because of the 24" stroke. I think it would be a nice addition to the 32BHDS, especially once it gets really hot out here (already in the mid 90s).

TexasA&M,

Your link is exactly what I bought 2mos ago.

Installed in 15min as advertised and it is slick. I went with the 24" stroke (instead of the more common 18" stroke), since I found that I routinely needed 5 Lynx blocks under my 32BHDS hand-crank in order to make easier work of maneuvering the WD-sway bars on my Equal-izer.

Bought my Barker VIP 3500 (24") through eBay and Mantelli Trailer Sales for $237.50 + $22.95 shipping.

Judi,

If your "loaded" tongue weight is just over 1,000lbs, a WDH rated at 1,000lbs, or "ideally" 1,200lbs should be just fine when properly adjusted, so IMO the Equal-i-zer brand WDH you presently have should be up to the task. I do question the 1,300lb rating, didn't know that Equal-i-zer made a 1,300lb rated WDH (400, 600, 1,000, 1,200, & 1,400).

Also, not sure I'm clear on your statement of "seems to just barely do the job". With the WDH adjusted correctly with the spring bars engaged, the front of your F-150 should be returned to it's "unhitched" height, and it's perfectly 'ok' to experience a 1" to 2" squat with the rear of the F-150. The days of equal squat (TV front/rear) are almost gone with todays TV suspensions.

Since you know the "loaded" tongue weight (just over 1,000lbs), do you know your "loaded" TT weight? Ideally you want your loaded tongue weight to be 13%-15% of the loaded TT weight on a 30ft TT like yours. So, based on your 1,000lb tongue weight figure your loaded TT weight should be around 7,200lbs (13%-15% of 7,200lb = 936lb to 1,080lb loaded tongue weight range). Just for grins I'm assuming your 1,000lb figure fell in the middle of the 13%-15% range. Keep in mind the GVWR of your 2010 Jayco 29BHS is 7,500lbs.

Need to know your actual loaded TT weight as it associated to your 1,000lb tongue weight figure.

Yep, as stated by other members you will have no issues adding the electric tongue jack.

Bob
