Electric Tongue Jack Installed

Thanks to reading the various threads on this forum, I chose the Barker VIP 3,000 # electric tongue jack.

It only took 30 minutes to install and that's because I didn't read the instructions right away and had to remove the bolts to put ALL 3 washers between the frame and the jack - DUH. lol

Looks like a real nice installation! I'm also looking at getting a Barker as well.

BTW..... I've had more than my share of those "DUH" moments myself!!

I would replace the coffee with a beer though.

You sure it's just coffee? Up yonder in WI it gets pretty cold (so I've been told) and I'd expect a little "human aintifreeze" in the coffee might be in order. :hihi:
Even tho our TT is light (as a feather - get it?) I've got an electric tongue jack and love it. I'm less likely to spill what's in my hand while leveling.

If it wouldn't of been during "normal working hours" it would of been a cold one!

How much travel does the jack have?

Looks good. Did you wire it directly to the battery?

A quick thread hijack.

I installed this same model on out 17Z and love it. My brother got a power tongue jack that was already on his White Hawk. The Barker model on the 17Z goes up and down a LOT quicker then the one that is on the White Hawk.

Granted, they are two different manufacturers, but the speed difference is very noticeable. I'm just wondering if they Jayco supplied jack is indeed slower or if the increased TW has something to do with it.

Looks good. I put a Husky on mine and love it. People that don't have one don't have a clue what they are missing. I replaced mine in the heat of the summer, so my toolkit included a cold one!!

Yes, it's wired directly to the battery.

I also have the Barkrr jack. It works great and was easy to install. It is hard wired to the battery.

Good job, Ross.

Replacing the manual tongue jack with an electric jack is usually the first mod on my trailers.

Enjoy,

I don't have an electric one! I have not found it an issue yet, mine is powered by a 9 yr old who does a great job, and gets made if I even try.

Someday when he grows up I may have to reconsider.

Looking at one of the fancy electric jobs also.

I also have to admit to using a bit of child labor (8 yr old son) for the time being and that works great so far. Would like to hear some more opinions on which electric jacks are preferred.

Indeed, I too would like to understand how you choose between 3000, 3500, 4000#. Seems 3000 would be enough, however, when hitching or unhitching, you need to lift the tongue and the truck to hook up the WD bars.

The manual (hand crank) tongue jack that I removed was rated at 2,000 pounds. From researching this forum I found more people preferred the 3,000 pound Barker. It was a good price and like I said, I didn't feel I needed to go bigger than that because I was replacing a 2,000 pound hand crank.

For my trailer with the WD hitch on it I have to (1) lower the trailer to the ball and couple it then (2) raise the trailer and truck up to make it easier to attach the WD chains and secure them and then (3) fully lift the tongue jack so I can tow. I haven't had a chance to use the jack to attach to the TV yet but once I do, I'll report back with my findings.

Ours came with a 2500lb Atwood, picks up the back of the truck just fine when hooking up the WD bars.
