Been looking at putting a box in that same location. I was going to tap into the microwave plug-in (a duplex size receptacle with just one plug) in the cabinet just above it. I don't quite get where you tapped into the line for the junction box. Could you be more specific how and where you did that?
Thanks, Jeff

I recognized the two slats. He pulled the microwave, and tied into the microwave outlet.

Nice! I am planning on doing the same. I guess I will wait until my 2 year warranty is up though. Dealer indicated any mods that require drilling holes, nailing/screwing to walls etc could void it.

Excellent execution!!!....although I would be cautious about running the microwave and coffee pot simultaneously on one circuit....that could easily pull 15A

The microwave is lost likely on a 20A breaker, so power-wise, there's no issue tying into the microwave outlet other than the new outlet is not GFCI protected and should be since it's in close proximity to water. I also have an under the upper cabinet outlet and to me, the cord dangling down was an annoyance. I tied into an outside outlet which is GFCI protected and never used and ran romex through the galley cabinets and put the outlet on the end of the counter/cabinet so the cord would be out of the way.

Perhaps he used a GFCI receptacle. In which case it wouldn't matter that the microwave receptacle is not GFCI.

The OP did not specify whether he did or did not and many people are not aware of that requirement. hence, my reason for mentioning it. Another point, and we can only speculate, is that if the microwave is on a 20A breaker and he used #14 wire to the new outlet, then he has a 20A breaker protecting wire rated for 15A which though unlikely, could cause a problem.

There was not enough room in the low profile box for a GFI I didn't look at the breaker yet but I was going to try to find a GFI breaker it's mainly for the Keurig so the microwave would not be an issue. No wires go in the cabinet above and the box fit in the hallow space between the cabinet and right in the microwave space I cut the line to the microwave and spliced it in a metal box.
